Tried my homegrown shallots and potatoes for the first time today, they were delish. It's amazing how much money you can save growing them yourself. I bought a packet of sweet pepper seeds for £1.50 and they sell them individually in the supermarket for 90p!

oh, i just realised i've not been down the greenhouse this evening. i got in late from work and then after cooking the tea we rushed off to ikea to get a cupboard for the bathroom.

i started growing the lemon tree when i was about 5 - so about 30 years ago. the seed was in a normal lemon that me and my mum were using to cook with, but it had started sprouting, so we planted it in a pot and so here it is, still only about a foot tall and never fruited in all this time! we kept it outside in the summer and inside in the winter. - nowhere exotic - derbyshire.

Boringly but truthfully, I plant a couple of garlic cloves at the base of my rosebushes, which keep greenfly and other sticky aphid horrors off the latter.

We have a market gardener just around the corner, he has fields of stuff, his own shop, and it's cheap.

I used to grow tomatoes and strawberries. I was fine with eating them, quite delicious actually, especially the strawberries but it all came to an end when I was watering the strawberries one day and I saw what had been crawling around on them. I'm completely aracnophobic and I just couldn't bring myself to eat them ever again. I don't bother now. Frown
