Ok so I've been offerred two jobs (yay me!) but I'm struggling to decide between them and so need your help.
Basically I was offerred the first one at the end of Feb and they have held the post open for me to start in Oct. Its at the place I am training in now, but its only a temporary contract for 2 years and there are no gurantees that there will be a job for me in 2 years time, apparently it depends on the outcome of the project I will be involved in (also they are cutting alot of jobs at the moment). Its an area that I am really interested in and I could carve a niche for myself in this area. The boss is nice but knowing her I think she would want me to do things her way instead of my own.
The second job pays about 3 grand less but its permanent, closer to home, and I could quickly move up the ladder. Its in an area that I do find interesting (but not as much as the first job and ther is no real opportunity to become a specialist) The new boss seems easy going and they are going to pay me to study as well.
I would say Job A. As for the situation with the boss, it is difficult to comment as I am not aware of the field that you are working in, but I would suggest that perhaps your boss would be advising you to work a certain way as she has the experience of what is productive.
Job B because with the information given there ssems a possibility you wouldn't be happy in job A, but not beacuse it's a 2 year contract. OK so Job pays less but hapiness is more important!
For me, location is the most important factor when taking a job, so i'd go b. But i wouldnt not take job a on account of it only being a 2 year contract. I'm sure you will get plenty of notice if your contract is not gonna be renewed and you'd have plenty of time to find something else Good luck!
I guess from my wording it does sound like I don't like my current boss in Job A - she is nice and has been good to me in respect of keeping a job open for so many months for me.
I'm in Job A today and really love it - and would really miss the people I work with (well most of them anyway!)
Job B is a complete unknown - I could hate end up hating it but have burnt my bridges with the folks in Job A if I turn it down......
Wouldn't dream of giving you advice, but would say whastever you choose never regret it and always look forward. So endeth the lesson Sorry went all preachy again. Whichever you take good luck
If i was you i would probs go with Job B, salary isnt everything, you have to weigh up the pros and cons for each. Travelling less will save you money, you will have security as its perm, and you never know with regards to moving up the ladder!! Good luck in whatever you decide.
For a whole day, imagine that you have taken job A. Think about it, really live it for the whole day. Examine your feelings about it, the job, location, people.
The day afterwards, imagine you have taken job B and do exactly the same, really believe you have decided upon B.
On the third day, ask yourself how you felt about each one and you should then have your answer.
Thanks for all your comments guys - much appreciated
I though on Saturday I had decided to stick with Job A - but after chatting to my uni mentor and an unbiased colleague they seem to think Job B is the better option and that my boss in Job A is a bit 'wacky' - so I am still unsure.....
Any advice from folks who have been in a similar position would be great!

Totally agree! 'Advice is what you ask for when you already know the answer and wish you didnt' (cant remem who said that) I'd say 'b' for security sake as you'll be looking over your shoulder in 'a'

job b sounds like you would get more experience and then be able to specialise if you wanted. I don't know what field your in but experience in all areas in any field i think is a benefit!!
