"Based on the belief that as it is entirely your choice to bring a child into the world, what happens is entirely your responsibility, and if you can't watch your favourite shows or dine unaccompanied in Portuguese restaurants and spend your days in transit between rugby, football and hockey practice, plus indoor cricket and the sort of party schedule that would give Kate Moss a run for her money, tough.

Your choice, remember. Not theirs. If a baby could poke its head out, turn to the midwife and say: “What, these pillocks? No, thanks, love, I was hoping for one with a brain,” then I would have sympathy for the “me time” lobby. As it is, you wanted it, you look after it. This means, when it cries, do what you would do with any adult for whom you have feelings and offer a little support and comfort."

I agree, although I do think some 'me time' is still important. You do need to do some things for yourself, whether its continue with your career or set aside 1/2 hour each evening to relax with a good book: your entire life doesn't need to focus purely on the children, there's nothing wrong with doing a few things for yourself

That is, as long as that doesn't affect them adversely. So that means, no leaving them on their own while you go out for a meal; going on holidays that are suitable for children and families and putting your own interests aside (I plan to travel before I have a family because once I do it'll be holidays that kids enjoy, not two weeks traipsing round ancient ruins in the blistering heat, much as I might like to do that myself); and ultimately making choices that are in their best interests, not just yours.
