if its any consolation by 2 1/2 year old won't sit down for long at dinner. Your doing well to keep cool when he hits you and thats certainly the best thing to do, he's doing it to see what a reaction he'll get, a firm no will finally get through to him. He's still only a baby and is only just realising this emotions.

Unfortunately most boys have a lot of energy (understatement) this is coming from a mother with 2 boys. Try and get as much help from other people as you can.

Hope this helps.

hi, sorry to say but thats just what children do. the time to worry is when hes not running roung causing mayhem.
you could get a play pen for him so you can get a bit of rest, but i would'nt reccomend leaving him in it for long periods of time. and get a high chair so at meal times he has no choice but to sit down.
If you get really stressed out with him at home take him out to the park let him run some energy off.

as for the hitting you should try to nip that in the bud as soon as possible, as if you just ignore it he'll think it's ok to hit. the only thing you can do is when he goes to hit you, stop him by getting hold of his hand and saying NO in a firm serious voice.

One more thing you could try is to go to a parent and todler play group, he can have a play and socialise with other children and you can have a chat with other parents.
