hiyaa I'm an A2 student doing a critical research study on how TV affects a child intellectually. Do you think the amount of TV watched affects a child's intellectual development? Do you think educational TV programmes are helpful? Thankyou x
Hi Chrissy, hopthe studying is going well. I dont think tv affects the intellectual side of children, but thats not to say it doesnt affect. My 5 yr has quite a high IQ, but he still loves his telly. But something as simple as the power rangers did affect his beahaviour. He had a phase a few months ago of being very aggressive and beating up his classmates,i know, cringe every time i saw the teacher.we couldnt figure it out, so we saw him impersinating the show while watching it one day and banned it from the house. He is now back to himself and not acting the bully! We did experiment and let let him watch it again afew weeks ago,but sure enough,i got called in the next day for him kicking a child. In regards to educational tv, i definitely think it helps. From drawing shows,to baking to sign language!I do find he picks up thinga from it,and in paticular,fi he is watching just a cartoon, when its over, its over. But i find if he's watching something like Mr.Tumble(sign language) or Go Diago, he wnats to talk about children with disabilities and how he can help, or just wants to teach me spanish words! Hope that helps!
