has anyone else noticed how hard it is to buy christmas presents for a baby under 6 months
not only do most of the web sites not put ages on their toys.... they are all mainly birth or over 6 months
so babies at 4 months are supposed to just use from birth ?
or do you buy them things they cant use till february!!!!
my baby will be 4 months
im finding a few presents
give me a clue what to buy and where fromSmile
thanks

im so happy i have all i cud wish for and more

Don't worry if they say six months up, toys they can grow into are the best of all. Other wise you end up with a house full of useless stuff they never look at again.

When my eldest was born he was 6m at Xmas and I remember the thing that excited him most was the wrapping paper and all the empty envelopes!

When family ask me what to get for my 3rd (now 4) I can never think of anything. Wehave masses of toys, I don't want anymore in the house, so I nearly always say books. ( And for my son's first Xmas we were given some beautiful classic books which he is only now looking at!)

PLus the age thing is so approximate. Why can't a 4m old experince a toy that says 6m?
PS I remember the octopus with squeaky legs being a huge hit too.
PPS have just remembered how with my first my friends and I sometimes used to swap toys for a week or so. Worked a treat!

Try ELC - they do things by age.

If you are buying baby gifts for someone else why not organic gift box of massage oil, shampoo and body wash, balms for dry skin, etc... (but then I am biased as I sell these : )

oh wow your all so wise Smile
i feel like a right newbie mummy Smile
i thought the 6 months would be a bit too much 4 him or just unsafe
but thinking about it now his play mat is for 3 months upwards and he loves it and he is only just 7 weeks
i will get him a few 6 months upwards then
and just anything i actuallt think will benifit him Smile
swapping toys sounds cool i have a friend with a 7 month old so i think he would get the raw deal at the moment Smile ha ha ha

im so happy i have all i cud wish for and more

Hi glitteremma, I still feel like I'm making it up as I go along Smile

But I do feel as I get more experienced I feel happier about trusting my own instincts and not giving a toss about what other people say Big Grin

Go with what your 4 month old seems interested in. My son at that age went to Rhythm time so was very interested in things to bang and rattle. I bought him a set of bells and a shaker from ELC. He still plays with them now and he is having a percussion set for his first birthday.

Hi - My daughters just turned 6 months this week and ahe (and her brother) both love music. So a really happy clappy kiddy cd with lots of rhythm to shake rattles and bounce round the kitchen with mummy to.
Another goody is the ELC activity triangle with beads, mirrors and things that little fingers can explore.

I often use christmas with a tiny one as an excuse to get another gorgeous sling as a present! After all they appreciate it too.

From what I remember around that time my youngest son liked his whoozit photo album, full of pics of his brothers and Dad, the squish classic, peekaboo ball (says from 1 year but I have no idea why), and one of our best buys has a been a pack of 4 sensory balls. Still a favourite and he is 18 months now.
You might like play silks, feel nice and useful for peekaboo.
But most of all he preferred people than any toy at that age, they love learning those social skills!

I think ELC was the place I got most of my sons presents for his first christmas, when he was 4 months old.

They do quite a good variety of soft toys, that incorporate activites, rather than just being cute and cuddly.

My son also had the activity triangle, and it was his favourite! Also, ELC's jingle bells (about £3) and mini rain maker (about £4) are really good, my son loved the noises, and they are easy to grip for litle fingers.

Most musical toys have an older age guideline just in case they happen to fall apart and the little bits come loose, but I dont see the harm in buying things like that, as long as they are not obviously too advanced, if the child is supervised when playing with them.
