Hi everyone, found out that my son (2) has this condition, and has to have the operation to correct it.
It all seems pretty straight forward. I just want some input/advice and thought about your experiences if any of your little princes had to have it corrected.

I know it is definatly a case of being operated on, and hormone treatment will not work because of the position.
That is all I know until he has seen a specialist .

my brothers both had it done when they were little and to be honest the only thing it affected was their walking for a few days whilst the began to heal, neither had any problems nor did they complain too much about the pain! the after math always looks worse than what it is cos of the swelling

like you say it has to be done its just very difficult explainin to a young child why they have to go through it xx

I hadn't even thought about explaining it to him. I don't think he would understand. My Grandma dies yesterday and I tried to explain that he won't see her anymore, but he just smiled and said 'yes' like everything else I tell him.

Hi. My son who is now 11 had this op when he was two. The op was fine but he had to have another op a year or so later. This was because the sack that contains the testes did not disolve when it had been descended. So it would fill up with fluid. This was normal apparently. The only other problem since then was when he was 9 his testes filled with fluid again. I took him straight to hospital but this was rectified with prescribed medication. Hope this has not scared you off. This is better than risking testicular cancer later in his life. He has no problems now (fingers crossed) except that he does not stop talking!!!!

I hope it all goes well for you.

No it hasn't scared me at all, like to know all the facts, know what to expect then. Did your son have is noticed at birth? As I have found this out myself and he is 2!

Oh now you're asking!! I'll try and cast my mind back Wink ... ... it was at a check up. It must have been an 18month/2 year checkup. He was referred striaght away - and was still in nappies when he had the first op.

Around abdout the same age then. My son is still in nappies, not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

I was not sure either, but the Doctor/Specialist did not see that as a problem. Just remember the nurse asking after the op if he had passed water yet? Replied that I did not know as he was still in his nappy.
The main thing I remember - selfishly - is taking him into the room for his pre-med. I had to hold him and talk/distract him whilst they gave him the injection. For one split second I felt unsure about leaving my child with these 'strangers' but the staff were so lovely that I felt I could trust them to look after my baby. This was over so quickly as they were very efficent and professional, they gave me no time to panic.
After the op my son ate loads of toast and was bit wobbly on his feet but by the time we came home and was soon on the mend. The stitches soon dissolved and he was not even aware of it all really. I think the nappy meant that he was not able to touch said incision.

I think I will dig some old vest's out of the back of the cupboard. I tend to use smaller ones in the susmmer, I know it sounds horrible. But his eczema plays him up, and if he can't reach the itchy bit's he can't scratch!
