Whichever you feel comfortable with as a mum, when you decide to have a baby , you will know which feels right, I opted for bottle, because I didnt like the other thing, just figured with all the shampoo and stuff running through my system bottle was best. Health visitor didnt like that though, but the mum has to be happy, no one else, happy mum, happy baby.

Its a lot easyer to breast feed in the night. No bottles to warm and clean. But you can take turns with a partner or family when you bottle feed. that way you can get some rest and enjoy the baby more.

There are loads of advantages with breastfeeding for both mother and baby. eg it's more healthy for the baby - breastfed babies are less likely to suffer from all sorts of illnesses because they get antibodies from mum. They also have fewer allergies. It helps the mother to lose the extra weight from pregnancy, it helps mum to bond with baby, it's much easier as you don't have to worry about bottles, milk being the right temperature etc. You don't have to carry anything with you when you go out or go on holiday. And of course you save money.

I can't really think of any advantages to bottle feeding. If a breastfeeding mother expresses milk then someone else can feed the baby, so that isn't an advantage of formula feeding.

I see that point, but I also think with all the toxins an average person puts into their system every day, make up, shampoo, cream, hair products, my friend breast feeds, but she has to give formula too, because she does not have enough milk for the need of the baby.
Best you just go with what feels right to you and the baby.

Here is an interesting article which addresses the issue of toxins in breastmilk.

geez I didn't respond to this thread to be brainwashed into being pro breast is best!
Bottle or breast whichever the mum and baby feel most at ease with!
I never believe reports that I have not faked myself, chemicals can never be good for humans.

I didn't breatfeed the first two (they didn't want to know) but I did the 3rd and Fourth....helping mum lose weight?...rubbish...

It was easier at night but it also meant that I didn't have the same freedom to do other stuff that I had when bottle feeding (and could pass the baby over to hubby).

Its all down to personal choice and whatever works for you...None of my children have ever suffered from allergies, serious illness or anything so I can't see what difference it may have made to them healthwise either.

I`ll join the "strange" lot then Big Grin I tried the boob with my first baby because it was "the done thing" I hated every moment of it, stuff natural, I thought it was horrible and was relieved when I ran out of milk after a couple of days, although I think alot of that was caused by stress. I put him on the bottle and he slept straight through the night and I never had another sleepless night, so he obviously wasn`t getting enough from me.

When I had baby number two, I wasn`t going to be pushed into doing what some people think is the right thing, I was older and was going to do what I wanted, not what other people thought I should be doing, which was how it was over 20 years ago and I put her straight on the bottle, I never had a sleepless night and nor did I with the next two babies Razz

They have always been fit and healthy and certainly haven`t suffered through being bottle fed and I get really wound up by people who push all this "breast is best" because in my opinion, its not. What suits the individual is whats best Smile

Struggled to b/feed my 1st but persevered as there were allergies in the family & I'd heard it helped. Glad I did. Ended up feeding both mine for around a year, till they decided weetabix more tasty!

For many years now people have been breast feeding and bottle feeding. As long as the child is fed and loved does it really matter Smile

I breastfed my little boy until he was about 2yrs old, i thought it was the most fantastic thing ever, to think that my son was growing and putting on weight with the milk that i was giving him. If you decide to do it forget about any fat free things, eat to your hearts content I did and the weight still dropped off me. I suppose i am biased and things went well for me, although i did find it hard to keep up with demand feeding sometimes. I do think that it should be down to whatever mum wants to do, but i see no harm in blowing the trumpet for breastfeeding - just my point of view, hope it helps.
