WHEN EVER MY 5 YR OLD SON IS AROUND HIS BEST FRIEND, THEY ARGUE. IT'S MOSTLY MY SON. THEY ARE IN TAE KWON DO TOGETHER, IN THE SAME KINDERGARTEN CLASS, AND EVEN FAVOR ONE ANOTHER. THEY ALWAYS WANT TO SEE EACHOTHER, BUT IT BECOMES A COMPITITION WHEN THEY DO. WE'VE TRIED GOING TO A RESTURANT AND THEY STILL ARGUE ABOUT "THAT WAS MY CRAYON" OR " MY PICTURE IS BETTER THAN YOURS" MY SONS TRIES TO HURRY UP THROUGH THE DOOR OF THE CLASS BEFORE HIM, ETC. ANY SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE!! I MUST SAY, MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN DEPLOYED SINCE OCT 2007, I KNOW THIS HAS A SOME TO DO WITH HIS ATTITUDE IN GENERAL, BUT WHAT STEPS CAN I TAKE TO HAVE MY SON BE MORE ENJOYABLE TO ALL OF US WHEN HE'S AROUND HIS FRIEND?
Unfortunately it seems that your son and his friend are just very competitive boys. When my daughter and her friend (a boy) were that age they were exactly the same. Both of them wanted to be first - to get in the car, out of the car - or to have the best at nursery school - the best musical instrument, the best toy etc. My friend and myself decided that the best thing was to more or less ignore it, hoping they would grow out of it. By the time they started Reception class they had almost grown out of it, so that could happen with your son. The bigger the issue you make out of it, the more competitive they may become, so try to play it down as much as possible. Good luck!
