I am the mother of 2 great girls now 10 and 9. I would say I am a mix of the 50's and 60's and while I don't agree with all of Claire's methods I do believe routine is important but that is what works for me and may not suit everyone. I brought my children up mostly how I was brought up but also listened to my own instincts, moses basket beside me for first 6 weeks and then in their own room, never once in my bed, feeding every 4 hours and yes both my girls were outside in their prams all day but certainly not left to cry! and my health visitor agreed with this. Both were sleeping through from 10pm until 6am from 7 weeks although my youngest suffered terribly from colic which is not much fun. My girls are both fit, healthy, bright and are rarely ill - fresh air is the key. Trust your instincts and do what you feel there are no rules, rights or wrongs and every parent is so opinionated what works for one may not be best for another. If it upsets you that much then don't watch the program

Ok to balance this point, we have followed a mixture of the 60/70 methods, all three of my youngest children slept through the night from around a week old. This was with feeding on demand (Breast fed) co sleeping and also taking them out (as a family) each day to tire them out. And yes still worked and looked after the other children (6 in total) alongside my husband. I think the point of leaving the child outside is more that in the program they are left to "cry it out" in an uncontroled way and I think this is what is upsetting for most people. However in regards to watching the program, controversy always gives good ratings and C4 know that, I just worry people might look at Claires methods and take them as the best way without using common sense.

I agree but surely common sense prevails natural instinct should take over no parent could possible leave a child crying uncontrollably. I admire your method and the results you achieved good on you girl!! again this may not suit everyone's life and ideals and afterall does it really matter how we achieve it so long as our kids are happy, loved and healthy.
