My son is 2yrs old & starts pre-school in around 6mths time, my concerns are he is not yet potty trained and has not started talking yet, he says some words such as mum, daddy, nana, papa, ball, car etc but thats it. I am worried he will still not be talkin by the time he starts pre-school and i am umsure how to start potty training

Please do not worry about how many/few words your child can say. Children all progress at different rates and in their own time. The child can obviously communicate.

As for toilet training the same applies. What is the preschools policy on this? Some do take children in pull-ups.

hi alien - i wouldn't worry about either.

it is not a good idea to push a child to be potty trained so that they can go to pre-school. there are several children at my son's nursery who are well past 3.5 years old and not potty trained. the nursery staff don't have a problem with it as it is just a morning nursery so the children never have dirty nappies all day long. if they do dirty nappies they are cleaned (although some places have a policy that they won't do this so check first).

as for language ability, my son is bilingual and although his English is weaker as we only speak French at home, I have been told that in just one month he is making up whole sentences in English and that he is very sharp and a fast learner : )

children adapt to language deficinecy much quicker than we adults do !
