Yes I agree, her uniform suggests that she is a member of some kind of professional body and the way she calls herelf a "maternity nurse" does give the impression that she has had some professional traing, how ever if she was a "professional" she would have heard of continuing profesional development which means evidence based practice based on continuing scientific research not just her personal beliefs !!! I can not believe this woman can go to baby shows and give her so called expert advice and i though your suggestion was a very valid one!! Thanks for prompting this. Sorry i tried to reply to thi earlier but just ended up duplicating it, but on reflection if more people read it then thats good. Verity quote: Originally posted by Outragedparent: Dear all, Only individuals registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council may use the title "Nurse" as a professional description. You might want to ask the Nursing and Midwifery council to investigate her use of the title "nurse" and the impression that channel 4 give of her as a professional registered nurse. www.nmc-uk.org

I thought that she looked like a midwife in her uniform. It's supposed to make her look crediable (NOT)

I have spoken to the NSPCC this morning. I suggest that as many people as possible ring up and say they want to make a child protection referral about it. They will try and palm you off to their PR department (spoke to them to and it is worth doing so, so that they know that people want action not just a press statment saying 'we dont agree with this'.
This must become more than just a 'PR / media is bad' issue. It must be taken up as a child protection concern, both for the families in the programme and for future babies in contact with Claire Verity.
I have aslo spoken to the Nursing and Midwifery Council about her using a nurse name and uniform, despite being unregistered. Their Standards department was also very concerened and will investigate.
Lastly, I have called the Children's Safeguarding unit at the Department for Children's, Schools and Families, about the fact that 'Maternity Nurses' appear to be unregulated (if she was a childminder you could contact ofsted and have her struck off). They too were very concerned.
The more people who call to the various bodies, the harder it will be for the 'machine' to not respond.

She's not registered? Why was she used on the programme? Surely they should have researched her background before they decided to feature her? And the families featured ought to have checked these things too!

I have complained to the nursing and midwifery council about her misleading (at best) use of the term 'nurse' and her dressing-up-box uniform. I also asked the C4 comm ed if the families were told that this woman had no qualification or training whatsoever.

OMG that woman is so crazy, pretending to be a nurse and charging 1000£ a day on her unhumane method wich is proved to be harmful to babies. scary!

I personally complained to OFCOM last night and would suggest that if you are really upset about the methods this woman advocates that you also let your voice be heard! Claire Verity is neglecting the needs of the children left in her care, she needs to be stopped now.

Hi Gabydolores,
that`s a very good point!!! I must aggree vith you entirely. I would contact channel4 about this, but to make sure the others are equally treared would ask them as well. If C.V. is a maternity nurse she just has a nurs qualification, so she is no special, and also she is just a unhappy person, and tries to ripp off people who has no other choice than listen to her, and "get back their lives".

Hi Everyone, just read the statement of MNC, but I`m not 100% happy, since it is not asking C4 any action. I would be much happier if they asked her to stop acting like a farmer who takes the calfes away from the cow. She is a desgrace to women. Good night for now. quote: Originally posted by aran: here no qualifications???

C4 called her a maternity nurse in last nights programme...... I think C$ should release a statement saying that this is rubbish.

And an apology for the swiftly garbled-and-edited-on voice clip, which was barely audible or comprehensible, about the importance of babies being in the same room as their parents for at least 6 months.

As the father of a loving, hugging 9 month old baby boy can I say how disgusted I am that people such as Verity are even allowed to practice baby rearing techniques. Verity, a baby has been 9 months listening to its mothers heartbeat and feeling her warmth. By the same token the mother has been bonding with the amazing thing growing in her body. When the baby finally arrives it is a HUGE event for both of them. To force separation for no other reason than to get a nights sleep is just twisted. The mother needs to reassure this baby (which is still learning how to breath fresh air) that everything is okay. We fed on demand, loved and cuddled, and got our first nights sleep at 6 weeks. Funnily enough sleep was not our priority, it was ensuring our baby felt safe and had all the cuddles and love required to develop. Babies not given love will probably grow up emotionally stunted - remind you of anyone CLAIR?

The NMC statement is inadequate and I urge you all to take action. The Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001 says all of the following are crimes: 1) passing yourself off as a nurse when you are not (s44.1.c); 2) allowing others to pass you off as a nurse when you are not (s44.2.a); 3) passing someone else off as a nurse when they are not (s44.2.b). It looks like all three crimes may have been committed here. The NMC should be prosecuting, not releasing statements to the media. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2002/20020253.htm#44

god im so glad to find some people who feeel as outraged as me and who are trying to do something about it -i seriously feel claire verity should be criminally charged with the neglect and cruelty she is inflicting on god knows how many children, and masquerading as an 'expert'. im quite angry with the parents of these children too, for letting that woman into their homes and allowing her to treat their children in that way, i do understand that when a supposedly authouratitive figure tells you what to do with your child it is hard to stand up to them, especially when a new parent, but she is basing her 'method' on a theory, an outdated one at that.
what she does is going against every instinct in those mothers-why does the mother get a hug if she is crying but not the babies? crying is the only way of communicating a young baby has, to train them not to communicate is disgusting, they may as well not have parents-it reminds me of the hundreds of Romanian orphans, silent in their cots because theyve learned that nobody comes when they cry.
at the end of the day, if you dont want children to change your life, dont have children.
i will be contacting the nursing and midwifery council and hope you all will be doing so too.

Is it not that no professional body would actually dare to give her a proper prof. qualification or title ? Even if she begged for it no one would actually wish to be associated with her !
Oh, except celebs. who have inflicetd CV on their own children, none of whom have come to her aid on this forum, how bizarre is that ? - Not good for PR to be seen too close to CV ? Buch of bloody hypocrites.

if my previous post gets deleted because of the external web link (someone mentioned that C4 does this from time to time!?), go to the Times Online web site and search for an article called "TV’s toughest nanny and the string of qualifications that do not exist"
nothing to add ...
