Olivegreen - I read something similar in the Times (I think) - I cannot believe that CH4 would not check thoroughly the qualifications of CV before they started this show. I am sure that they would have been aware just how controversial this show was going to be. I also cannot believe that there are people out there who claim to have qualifications when they have not! It says a lot about the type of person CV is I think...we have all agreed/disagreed about lots of issues on this forum but I think that we can all be in agreement witht the fact that CV is a liar......and therefore why should anyone listen to what she has to say on anything, childcare in particular.
As if they'd cared if she had qualifications or not. They were told by various bodies concerned with the health and wellbeing of children not to use Claire Verity before the show was even made. They were warned her methods are neglectful. They still used her. From what I've read of various documents on here Hamish was very excited and apparently wants more like bub! I'll take the streets if anything like this is ever even hinted at being made. Bringing Up Baby should be the end to absurd parenting shows that exploit children and give discredited advice. No more! Can they not think of anything more interesting to make?
ah but moogy, crying, force fed, neglected babies, make such excellent viewing, don't yeh know ?
may be they think it is a bit like Big Brother, a bunch or adults coming on TV to make a total back side of themselves, except here we have babies who can not CONSENT to how they are being treated.
Well childism is the last widely accepted form of prejudism. Channel 4 dealt with racism swiftly, but it's prefectly fine to be childist despite the fact the consequences are going to lifelong for the poor babies involved. Same goes for phone in rip offs. Big media coverage, lots of apologies and investigations. But to me yes it's wrong people were robbed, but a few quid missing for each victim of this scandal is a minor problem compared to the damage caused by Verity, this show and any other show that exploits children in this way. So why isn't there even more furore over Bringing Up Baby? Why isn't there more media coverage, perhaps where those with an anti neglect view are allowed to speak. Here's hoping with the lovely Eileen Hayes on Woman's hour tomorrow bucks the trend.
I can't believe that C4 are using little babies as guine pigs. I really feel for those poor little babies who are subjected unvoluntarily to CV's dreadful, harsh and draconian methods. I have studied psychology to a postgraduate level, and even if we wanted to ask people(adults)about the brand of cereal they would prefer, or what adverts they liked on TV, our study had to be subjected before an ethics committee. Here they are putting little lives, though some of the most distressing conditions which could affect them when they are older.
