Has anyone just watched the programme on channel four - 12 and looking after the family? I have and so has my friend and we cant believe that this is allowed to happen. What those children are going through is appauling and discraceful. Is has reduced my friend to tears and myself to complete silence and shock. What does everyone else think?

I have just watched it too... and this is the first time that I've felt the need to voice an opinion about a program...

To put it simply, I'm feeling quite disgusted that this kind of thing is allowed to happen... It's left me feeling angry, frustrated, shocked, and helpless... why can't the parents see what they are doing? how can we help those poor kids?? Confused

Lets just hope and pray that Social Services actually do something to intervene. Infants and toddlers being left all day in fecal matter-ridden nappies is tantamount to CHILD ABUSE in my honest opinion.

I just wish there was something I could do...

I'm 25 (and a bloke - not that that is really relevant), and it's really got to me...

Well done to the programme makers for getting this on air...

Because it is their human right to be able to have as many children as they like, especially as they do not have to pay for them. I have two children and the second child we really had to think about. I got a better paid job, sorted out the house etc. Another thing wrong with our society where you can pass your responsibilities onto the rest of the country, which means that I have to work ever hearder along with my wife to pay the taxes. I cannot afford to smoke, we never go out because I look after my family. If they had to pay there way they would have stopped at one, if they could not look after that one due to neglect the system should step in. You should be able to provide for your own.

I am totally disgusted. Will those kids EVER have a life of their own...how can they get married and WANT to have kids of their own, without being tethered to their parents forever. The mom (not all there as far as I'm concerned) justifies things by saying 'they have to help out to stay part of child carers' or whatever it was she mumbled. Didn't even know she had lost her baby 2 months previously. Smokes when pregnant... Kids lying all over the floor, filthy clothes..2nd eldest kid tried to kill herself (her parents don't seem worried) and the eldest daughter is devoid of all emotion! What's up there. They should not have been allowed to have more than one child..END OF! I feel so sorry for those kids.

Like everyone else I was really angry watching this programme but unlike most of you I have a closer connection in asmuch as I had blind parents. Forgive my duplicating but I paste my posting here so that you can see my views... Were my parents still alive they would be so angry at the picture this selfish duo paint of blind people... Having both attended Blind Boarding Schools they have no excuse as they are taught complete independence and responsibility for self!

I have just watched the programme Age 12 and looking after the family and my anger just grew. I am 60 this year and the youngest of five children - my parents were blind - mother totally and dad an albino classed as blind. Dad worked as a basket maker & pub pianist while mom was at home successfully raising the family and keeping the home with no help. She kept a clean spotless house, spotless whites & boiled towels & sheets, hung them out of the line. I can still not iron as well as mom and her knitting was so neat it was thought to be machine knitting. The only cooking she did not do was frying and cake baking - but never fear that was tackled by dad. The only job done by us children was to look over the peeled potatoes for 'eyes' and to make sure that doors were left fully open or closed (easier to sense) and nothing was left on table edges or the stairs. It was a wonderful loving childhood and so to see this programme tonight where two people were using blindness as an excuse to bad parent made me so angry. All those children were suffering from neglect and the inactivity of social workers, young carer assoc and teachers is astounding - more so when you heard that Jenny the younger sibling attempted suicide last year. My heart cried out to her and I was in tears at her quiet suffering. Please please believe me - having no sight (these two even have a small amount so they are not totally blind) does not excuse the conditions here. The parents failed to respond to the children on every level - basic caring and basic loving.... My homelife lacked wealth in money as dad's pay was a pittance and the piano provided a week at Butlins and Christmas as he played six nights a week, but we had love and laughter in abundance as well as a carefree childhood. If you watched the programme believe me ... it doesn't have to be like that!

I COULDN'T BELIEVE the 'mother' saying that the doctors at the hospital had told them to TRY FOR ANOTHER BABY. Say what? Someone should get hold of the man and tie a knot in his whatsit. Find it hysterical that the 'mom' can't find a bottle on the floor or clean up blood, but she can find the important part of her man when she wants another baby. i am horrified.

Having watched this programme with my wife and daughter we are all still shocked and disgusted. We all shouted at the screen at different times throughout at the behaviour of the two unfortunate individuals. This family need help and Social Services should be at their door tomorrow and sorting this out.
You could sense the despair in the voice of the filmmaker.

I agree about having to provide for your own. Disgusted that the KIDS don't have a say about 'the right thing' and being allowed to just have kids willy nilly.

What a wonderful post. I can hear the love in your voice when you talk about your life and your parents..there surely was a load of love and care in your house. I was appalled at this couple and the amount of neglect in their home...they didn't even seem to be able to give any hugs and cuddles out at all...never mind the rest. Plenty of time for beer and fags though. Scary stuff.

And the disbelief in the filmaker's voice when she questioned the family on the issue of suicide? Was awful. My daughter even asked WHY the filmaker didn't step in and do something. I had to try and explain that the filmaker was impartial..or had to try and be...how awful. HOpe the British public go 'mad' like they did with Big Brother. This is far more important!

I bloody hope this makes the news. We were making news about people being racist when they weren't so this is a hell of alot more important and should. As for the other woman she just needed a kick up the backside and told to stop feeling sorry for herself and not be so selfish to her son.
