Hi my 19th month old won't sleep in his cot...he will play in there in the day say if im ironing but when it comes to bed time he doesn't want to go in there and he ends up sleeping in our bed. Its been like this now since his been about 6 months old. I really want to try to get him to sleep in his own room do you think i should change the cot to a bed or is it to early for that?

Any other suggestions - help!

As i was reading your post i thought get a bed then i read the last line hehe

I would my son was in a bed around the same age cos he kept Climbing out of hos cot and i was scared that he would hurt himself

When you go and buy the bed maybe take him with (after you have been on your own/with his dad) and let him get excited(sp) about it before its delivered etc let him pick his bedding etc and just make him see it as a treat.

I know it's not easy but is he fed up with the cot by bedtime if you have to use it as a playpen?
Maybe just using it for sleep and finding another way of keeping him in a safe space when you do things like ironing is the way forward?
It's nice though to hear of people who think of things like their kids being safe when they're doing stuff like ironing. Keep up the good work!

I've decided to change his cotbed into a cot now...thanks for the advice. I only started to put him in the cot in the day whilst im doing ironing to get him used to it but that didn't work...he probably sees it as somewhere to play. Silly idea of mine hey.

Not a silly idea at all! Safety is obviously important to you, and not everyone has room for things like seperate playpens. He does probably see it as a nice place to play while Mum does boring stuff though, and giving him a bed may make him feel more of a big boy anyway.

If he tends to climb out of bed, then the 'Supernanny' bedtime technique worked a treat for me!

Ive only ever had one night when my son climbed out his cot. I didnt make a fuss, although I was shocked, I just took him back to bed and said 'bedtime darling' and left the room.

When he got out again, I left off the 'darling' and replaced him just like before. He climbed out twice more, and I didnt say a thing, just calmly placed him back into bed, and he stayed there.

That was 3 months ago, and not once has he climbed out of his cot again.

Exactly what I was going to say, I`m pleased I read through now Big Grin I only ever used the cot or bed for bedtime, not for playing in and thankfully I`ve never had problems with any of my children sleeping, although that isn`t the only but I`m sure it helped Smile
