have you tried reins or a wrist link for your child they might not like it but its the safer option. i did this with my son then gradually let him walk without it and if he ran off i put it bk on and made him walk with it on and he soon learnt from this hope it helps x
Proud to be lukes mummy... love you always son xx yesturday is history....tomorows a mystery....today is a gift.
I agree, reins! My son always has his reins on if he is walking and he is also 2. I would not trust him not to have his reins on. He at least feels a little freedom ass he is not holding my hand all the time, but I also have the added comfort that he cannot go anywhere.
Definately try reins or a wrist strap. My daughter hated being on them so much that the alternative - not running away and holding my hand - by far the better option.
She is now three and we are just progressing to walking on the pavement without holding hands, however if she doesn't stop when I ask her to she has to hold my hand again. I suggest you do the same with the reins, any bad behaviour, i.e. letting go of your hand or running away means that they go back on the reins until you feel ready to trust them again.
Not only do you have something to bargain with you're teaching them an important lession about consequences and responsibiliy.
