[In the vain hope that somebody out there wants to talk!]
What formatting tools do you use for preparing the overall look of your script? Do you use actual scriptwriting software? I write films as well as plays (please check out http://www.supershorts.org.uk/view.html?id=711 for one of them), so I'm playing around with Final Draft at the moment...
And is there anybody out there (anybody?) who usees a Mac for their writing. I'd really like to have someone's brain to pick!
Personally, I use ScriptSmart available from the BBC. You can use it for stage, screen, TV drama, sitcom, radio and comic book. And there are Mac versions available.
This is by no means a perfect script writing tool – but is has two major things that go in its favour: 1. The final product looks professional. 2. It’s free!
It may take you a while to get to grips with it – but if it saves you £150 to obtain a professional looking MS, that time is well worth it.
I did try that one a while back - it kept quitting on me as soon as I hit the enter key... Perhaps I should give it another go.
I've been using a free download of Final Draft for the film scripts - which works well enough with only two drawbacks: 1) maximum script length is 15 pages (not really a problem with shorts!) and 2) when you print it off, it prints a watermark (but not a problem if you're emailing the script). Otherwise for playscripts, I've just been following the format from scriptsmart, but it's a faff trying to set up the format manually, though the MacUser magazine had an articule a while back, apparently about setting up a template. I'm not terribly au fait with setting up templates. Not with Word.
Oh, and thanks for the response, Jay. Nice to know there's still somebody out there!
