Hmmm… Not so sure about that.

You are addressing a collection of playwrights here. Have you ever met group more needy of, or receptive to, a quick ego massage? Isn’t that why we write for an audience – so that we can watch people (hopefully) enjoying our work?

Me ego’s got knots in it at the moment, so you fire away!

Sorry to hear it, Jay. I would recommend a mixture of Champagne, Marlboro Lights, psychotropic medication and children's television but I realize that doesn't work for everyone.

But if you read carefully, you will see that I was talking about the hard work of raising one's self esteem as opposed to relying on other people to do it. I do think there is something needy about playwrights, of course I do, but the better I get at writing, the more it becomes about pleasing me and the less it becomes about pleasing other people.

Take a deep breath, Jay, and enjoy the now. Enjoy this humdrum generic Wednesday morning perusing this forum. Even try to enjoy feeling crappy. For good or for ill, this is your life right now and it is what it is. Bearing witness to reality is a fundamental touchstone of self-esteem, which is what will save you when other people cannot or will not.

I personally manage to bear witness to reality for about ten minutes a day. The rest of the time, it's the Champagne, etc. Oh, and I like to immerse myself in the majesty of Caicos' life story.

Your internet buddy who respects you and likes you,

Swann

Hmm, not sure about the Marlboro Lights?

The rest sounds agreeable, Swann.

Actually I feel fit enough to try a pre dinner gin and tonic. Wink
