Don't see why the PT should be prescriptive Miss C - and what do they have to forgive? For saying you were shorted when you weren't - or for saying you were when you were?!

Naughty, naughty Miss C, for either!

Adman, do you think you're being a touch silverback-y to poor Ms C? Isn't coyness a woman's prerogative?

Still not sure I understand the silverback thing - must be uniquely American!

My only point was - for what should the PT be forgiving MissC?!

Silverback - the male leader of a group of gorillas including immature males and females, up to about 30. The silverback, so called for the white hairs on his back, is the undisputed commander of the group to whom the other gorillas are deferential.

Gorillas are introverts who hate conflict. Prolonged stress can cause deep drepression that sometimes proves fatal.

Attacks by silverbacks are usually due to humans taking the wrong approach. Gorillas do not charge out of aggression but because they haven't been shown the proper respect.

The dominant male is head of the harem, but females are allowed to take on a lover as long as the adultery remains discreet.

Unlike chimpanzees, gorillas copulate behind bushes, with the female always taking the initiative.
In the gorilla world, incest is prohibited.

DNA tests show that gorillas share 98% of human genes. They are closer to us than chimpanzees.

With an IQ varying between 85 and 95, gorillas can communicate with us.
The proof?
This is a dialogue between Koko, a female gorilla and scientist Francine Patterson using sign language:
F.P.: When do gorillas die?
K: Illness, old
F.P.: Where do gorillas go when they die?
K. Comfortable hole...goodbye.
F.P. What do they feel, when they die?
K. Sleep

I've been thinking about this...

I take it that the IQ range stated must be the human scale (else it would be distributed about it’s own mean... which is based at 100.)

Now – consider that IQ tests are administered to human beings and based to a mean of 100. They are normally distributed - which means there is an even distribution about the mean... (i.e. 50% on either side) and a distribution shaped like a bell curve (i.e. a hump in the middle about the mean). This means that the majority of people tested are near 100... In fact - in a 'normal' distribution 50% of the population will fall into the middle 'hump'... and this then tails off equally to both extremes... (the highest being about 210 the last time I read – but no doubt some little genius will have gone higher by now!)

What this means – is that if what is stated about gorillas is true - a range between 85-95 is going to approximately match/beat 50% of the human population!?!?!

I’m intrigued – on a more than statistical basis!? Can you provide a link to that information Lewes… I have to satisfy myself… Wink

I reckon that's about right!

After all, it emerged in the last week that gorillas use sticks. So do police officers.

Sorry - I've just looked at my last post - I meant of course 40% as a guestimate... (But I know you know what I meant - and it's not that different!)

LOL! Adman. If you've ever seen a police officer running around bashing people with their night sticks; you do get a certain sense of it. (Theme music to 2001 playing in the background.) Big Grin

I was a cop for 3 years MsM and served through - and in - the Brixton and St Pauls' riots and never took my truncheon out (ooeer missus). But I saw a few colleagues who did and, yes, you're right, the intro from 2001 is uncannily reminiscent!
