Doesn't that make brilliant sense (of course, it took a geek to see it)!?

Shall we all stick to this one thread now? It'll probably blow up their server, but it might be worth a try!

I've had two thoughts:
1. Stick my head in the gas oven.

2. Put it all behind me and strive to write something that is successful.

Well theres a quote thats going on the cuttings file:

"... makes brilliant sense."
(Leading member of the advertising industry)

Ill ignore the geek bit.

I keep getting flashes of enthusiasm to finish my play but they usually come when Im up to my navel in work. When I have time to sit down and write it all turns to dust.

Im with you on your campaign adman - most of the rest of my family are in AmDram so if I do get it finished I might pass it on to them play with. The great thing is they all live in stafford and Im in NI so I won't get driven out of town by a rampaging audience demanding their money back.

Its a nice idea - a network of struggling play-wrights linked up with the network of AmDram societies. Like you say - they are often looking for new (and cheap) material and we are looking for fame and glory a chance to pursue our art.

Certainly interested - it's an idea with legs.

Might even be funding available (arts council for instance).

Gonna take time and organisation though.

It gets my vote
There are lots of websites showcasing novels (for a fee) but I've not found 1 for plays

Adman,

Quite like the idea of a play write community site.
in the meanwhile i am returning to a pilot for a TV serial/series (the same thing nowadays?)If i can pull it off a burnt hard drive. (Note to self, really must start doing the back up thing) Does anyone know of any suitable help or script doctoring service they can recommend re this type of script!

Or, I suppose i am really asking, anyone any experience of this type of script and would they be interested in looking at it for me?

Like the single thread thing. Let's see who breaks ranks first!

Isn't some of this information available in Writers guide or some similar publication?
I'll be happy to help in any of this.

Howsabout this

Anyone up for this, send me a 'hi' to services at tcworks dot co dot uk, and I'll start building up a list to circulate back to everyone else. Maybe a 1 para biog and real names so we all know who's who? Don't forget to give me a town/city area - but not addresses or phone numbers, please.

You do realise this is heading toward a 'what weekend do we all meet up and where'!

PS – Anyone thought about ‘reporting’ this post to get ‘Prods’ attention?

Just been catching up and reading the thread.

Wow! What an interesting idea. It would be great to have one place to put all the plays that don't make it to the beloved Channel 4. Big Grin You never know someone may take up what they see.

Has anyone ever been onto http://www.amdram.co.uk that's a pretty good resource for amdram groups in the UK. Maybe they would be interested in linking to your website once it's set up?

Hi all,

Good stuff.

Have just checked
'theplayvault'
'theplaylibrary'
'stageplayforum'
'stageplayexchange'

all are available in .co.uk and .com

are you thinking UK only or wider afield?

LML... considering the speed of posts - we could have a chatroom like AmDram.Co.Uk (not that I became an addict or anything!!!!!)

(Warning C4 - this new site could be bigger than TPTT show itself)

(Hint, hint... There's the sequal or E4 show sorted)

Yeah you can probably get stuff pre-done. I'm just a terrible coding snob hehe. Plus the more practise I get the more likely I am to actually get paid for something one day.

I could probably code a PHP messageboard and chatroom without too much bother really. I just say it'll take ages in case something goes wrong.

Let me do a bit of catching up as I have been working all day – difficult to work a PC when you are sorting out various broken bits of houses.

Firstly regarding earlier question - I will be finishing this play – have just had agreement from Local Theatre (Limelight Theatre) that it is booked for 23rd/24th June next year. And they haven’t read the script and I have no Director, Cast or anything! (I assume by this time This years TPTT will be all over bar the wailing and gnashing of teeth.)Then I will be writing another one and another . . . I have a target of 5,000 words a week of creative writing (as opposed to boring stuff) as I figure the more you practice the better you get.

Your all invited of course - especially after I do/don't win TPTT (delete as applicable).

I only arsked . . .

Second:- The Web site is a great idea. I have looked for sites that you can post plays on – there used to be one called the Dramatic Exchange but they only updated it about once a year and last year it closed down. I Can’t contribute to the webby side of things but if I can help in any other way . . .

One word of caution. If we all start getting our plays performed for even a few pounds by Am-Dram societies would we be barred if C4 run the competition again next year?

The Am-Dram Network site is a good one if you are looking for parts locally as an Actor but is a bit weak in other areas.

Adman - have sent my details.

Does it rule us out? I though only 'professional' productions barred you from entry... The amount of money we're talking about from an AmDram group wouldn't cover expenses (think of the hourly rate it would equate to)

Woah, I have three stars!

I also thought...there might not even be another TPTT competition if this one doesn't prove to be very popular with the viewers i.e. if we don't win, put us on the programme and everyone would be hooked.

So, after catching up with the uber-thread, let me see if I'm understanding the mass brainstorming session that has been held in my absence.

You want to start a website, on which we all submit our plays, which can then be flogged to AmDram societies all over the country. This in turn allows us to get our work seen and proves to be a potential nice little earner on the sly.

It also gives those of us who are more laid back (lazy) something to work for n'est pas?

Interesting.

Would you limit it to us TPTT rejects? Or every budding writer in the country?

And, potential new project aside - shouldn't we all meet up and go for a drink at some point anyway?

The set-up could happen quite quickly really. You could probably get the main infrastructure up and running in 1-2 weeks...

I can't believe I said infrastructure.
