On The Third Day had its last performance in the West End on Saturday. It had a fantastic run of 7 weeks, and I am proud to have been part of the whole process - and to know so many extraordinary, talented and wonderful people along the way. Thanks, everyone on the forum, for entering into such lively discussions about The Play's The Thing, about my play, and about me - some of which was constructive and interesting, some of which was - well... To those who are writing - I wish you all the best with future projects. Don't give up. See as much theatre as possible. Read as much theatre as possible. Be your own critic - don't be too influenced by others' opinions. Be adventurous. Be supportive: it's a tough profession. If you really have a passion for writing, keep your minds and hearts open, and be ready to learn and to be surprised. Good luck! Kate x
I came in for a lot of stick (to say the least) partially for saying that I consciously didn't see the play because of the reported content and because of the cost to me as a distant audience; and my defence of my opinion was cited as one of the reasons for the end of this Forum.
I really, really hope that you read though the misquotes, hyperbole and tension and see that I never did criticise your writing or the play itself (in fact, I think I quoted sources to say your writring seemed poetic!), but that, as I suggested, "my" theatre is simple, family, possibly demode comedy.
I wish you, as much as I wish all my old friends here, nothing but the best for the future and for the realisation of your dreams (whatever they are!). It would give everyone who was here great hope to witness the SECOND Betts oeuvre on the stage!
BTW if Sonia Friedman ever looks in, pop over to the US forum and say Hi.
Jay,
Might as well try and lure her toward Edd's green room as well.......*gives evil laugh*
Seriously, a Q&A with Kate or any of the TPTT judges would be of real value to all of us newborn playwrights, who have been inspired by TPTT and are now left struggling to take our first literary baby steps.
