Aurora - I reckon about half of us on here are AmDram; and apart from a few interviews and some commercials on C4, I think they've relied heavily on the AmDram network to promote this. Did you enter? How many? What genre?
Playfull - Your best bet, frankly, is to check out your local library and go ask at your local theatre! There are listings sites (quite a lot of 'em) - but none would be comprehensive as so many Societies are, in effect, technically non-existent!
I've been acting/directing AmDram for just over 9 years - and that's what got me into writing stage plays: One club I belonged to asked me to write a play (knowing that I was a former journalist) so that they could justify buying a new box set. I did, and the adjudicator (oh yeah, it was in a festival) suggested that I should start approaching agents and theatre companies as he thought the play had commercial potential.
I still act now (mostly in comedies) and love the feeling gained by getting the audience to react in the way the director/playwright intended.
Better still is getting to watch your own imagination enacted before your eyes!
As the comp is now closed, and there seems little point in having multiple threads, all us friendly folk are trying to gather on one thread - "ONLY THIS TOPIC FROM NOW ON?" - come and join us, nobody bites (except LilMiss Lesley if you ask her nicely!).
I used to be in a youth theatre when I was a teenager, which was really good fun. Got involved in some amateur productions when I was at university, but on the technical / backstage side rather than acting.
I only saw one advert for this competition on Channel 4 so it makes sense what people are saying about it being promoted through the AmDram channels.
