Went to the theatre to rebook my tickets today (after I was told the pesky 14th was cancelled!) and saw one of the writers chatting with the production team in the foyer and then go inside with them.

It seems pretty likely that this is the winner to me, but I suppose hold the possibility they might have just been visiting/supporting the winner.

Anyway - the writer there was

...

...

...

The Jesus woman! I can't remember her name, but I do remember her waxing lyrical about sodding planitariums.

Can't say I liked the initial pitch for this one, but who knows how far it's come since then. I look forward to finding out on Thursday.

Please NO!

If this is true, there is no hope for people that are serious about getting into the theatre.

And it looks like SF got her way - but it could explain the cancellations. My guess would be that the demographics would show that people just wouldn't want to see that show - or anything by that write.

Cutey though she is, she's just to cloy and ineffective.

Damn, might have to find something else to do with the next couple of Sats and Mons!

I know - it's rather disappointing news.

I guess hold on to the hope that she's just visiting.

Oh! I wanted it to be the weepy one by Benny Hill.

Bang goes my theory! I thought it would be either the tall guy with glasses, or the guy with wild hair as I felt they looked smug like they knew someone on the 'inside'.

I though crazy planet lady could be in for a chance because her idea was pretty wacky. What is her background, does anyone know?

Find myself longing to see a play about absent fathers....

Interesting - a few moments ago I thought it was thunder, but I now know it was the sound of bums coming off seats.

Mind you (takes deep breath) we don't know what the plot or synopsis is yet. I'll try thinking about it kindly at the moment; it could be a compelling pschizophrenia thing I suppose ...

... nope. I tried, but it didn't help.

All of a sudden Benny Hill and Fathers Day looks good!

Just visiting! Shes just visiting! That's it! I can stay sane with that thought. It's alright. She's just visiting.

Oh, thank you Mrs R!

I just don't want to believe this - but given SF "theatrical event" line, it just sounds too true.

This has been a let down from begining to end.

Not getting longlisted.

Seeing the pre-reviews and thinking that they wouldn't want a play by someone that has actually written one and might have a grasp on what theatre actually is.

Seeing the programme and realising that you were right.

Seeing the programme and spotting a couple of decent ideas (old age deliquents, child desertion)

The first two performances cancelled.

Someone spotting the one person that is just too twee to make an impact on theatre and tar all wanabees with her reputation.

I think I need a drink.

Stuff it! I'm going to get a professional production and enjoy telling the press how I was rejected from this thing.

I bet the professionals that critisised this thing at concept are laughing all the way to the bank!

If she was visiting... Why would she be doing that?

Noooo - I meant she was doing that on the TV show - not in the foyer. Lol.

Some hope? SOME HOPE?

You do realise that we're all now sat at keyboards across the UK hoping and praying that The Fastest Milkman In the West has been coached and tutored well enough to outwrite The Fifth Apostle?

Hang on ... a quote from one of my favourite playwrights comes to mind;

JACK: Have they started a new series of 'Beadle's About'?

Big Grin

I actually fell of my stool laughing at that (both parts)...

What was that line about exclamation marks?

To add some weight to the theory;

Ms Betts play stars a woman who pulls a schizophrenic, and her brother who's a potholer? 1F 2M ?

The cast list shows maxine Peake, Paul Hilton and Tom McKay starring.

No 12 year old child (so that's possibly Benny Hill ruled out). We also know it's a drama, not a comedy, so that's probably the advertising man ruled out.

Re the above; Mrs R must be 100% spot on.

http://www.musicomh.com/comment/plays-the-thing_0606.htm

The final three include a university lecturer from Chichester (that's Kate Betts, the Jesus woman), a supermarket worker from Manchester (that's Benny Hill) and an advertising copywriter from London (our comedy writer).

Neil Pearson on Kate Bett's play - "I want her world to get lost".

They sure valued HIS opinion then!

That guy Neil Pearson said nothing remotely interesting during the entire show. Did you notice they had to voice over a few of his comments in post-production to make it appear that he did not come across as a drooling moron and an officious prat? Unfortunately, it dfidn't work.

Good morning all.

Everyone has their visceral reaction of like or dislike and it doesn't really progress too much from there, does it? Humans may be a doomed species.

So if you cannot be critical about someone ou have seen so little of, how can you be critical about a play you haven't even seen.
You've seen some of 30peple talking about the first fifetenn page of an idea which is not even a first draft. Keep real you lot. A little more sideays thinking might get your plays out of the SF bin.

I hadn't been critical of the winning play wotplay - and had in fact booked to go and see it on the power cut affected 14th.

Will now await the next TV program.
