On one of my more egregiously tongue in cheek postings I refered to a relation who went down on the Titanic, and with out exception I would immagine all of you thought this to be another figment of my fertile mind. Not so.
William Maybery was the son of my grandfather's brother, he had migrated to Canada. William's wife needed medical treatment of a type which was not available in Canada, therefore they returned to England. While over here, William received a letter from his brother requesting his presence back in Canada to attend to the family business.
William could not return on the ship he had come over on as there was a seamen's strike in progress. As a consequence of this, White Star offered it's first class passengers a second class birth in Titanic, reasong that second on Titanic was the equivalent of first on any other ship. Eager to Get back to Canada, William accepted the offer and left his wife here to continue with her treatment, the rest as they say, is history.
Not the kind of thing normally posted here, but what the hell, we're in the last days, and the play is no longer the thing, it's now the biggest joke down the Groucho. That last bit was just to show you I have not lost my touch
