I know this has been touched on in other threads but as the time draws near: None of know how much time we will have to spend in the TV Studio/Theatre if we get through.
Suppose you make the final three, how much would you risk for a 1 in 3 chance?:-
Your boss tells you it is your job or TPTT which do you choose?
Your wife/husband/sig. other says it is the play or them. Which do you give up?
Job or TPTT - I have no say in that one! The military are sort of funny like that... But they would love it! I've done most of my theatre within the Military (we've got some great theatres). They would love the opportunity to shout about what they do!
Wife or TPTT - Doesn't apply. It was her that encouraged me to enter. If it were at all possible, I think she wants me to be a successful playwright more than me!
Sell/remortgage house - If I had to take an unpaid sabatical to do TPTT, I would remortgage in a heartbeat! I'm willing to stake my money (or the bank's) on my play...
Adman's children - I would
Sorry, didn't read the bit in brackets first time!
I think my degree would have to come first. While being involved in TPTT would be a total blast and a fantastic opportunity, I've been through 3 years of hell to get as far as I have and I really wouldn't want to blow all of my hard work on something that ultimately promises me nothing.
That's me kicked right off the shortlist then eh?
-Every rose has its thorns. Mine are all sticking in my side.
If you get to the final 3 you'll be meeting Agents, Producers, Directors and Publishers.
Unless your play has been deliberately chosen as a stalking horse (and I don't THINK that's TPTT's style) you should have a decent chance of 'making it' - almost as much as the 'final one'.
In fact, you wouldn't have the badge of the 'amateur winner' round your neck. There's an argument for saying it's a good deal either way.
Me, I'm chucking my ad portfolio on the fire if I get through ...
I'm on a 'career break' anyway - have been for the last 18 months... Looked after my dad before he died... now my Mum has cancer too... So if it was too much time away - I guess I couldn't do it. Simple as that. Some things are more important.

MsMinxy, my heart goes out to you. I lost both of my parents to cancer (Dad when I was 12 & Mum when I was 21, just 6 months before my wedding.)
No one else can understand directly the experience another goes through, but know my best wishes are with you. You are amongst friends here.
I had to give up my full time job in 1997 because of a prolonged illness and I am still at home now. A lady of leisure, so the job question doesn't count.
I have a husband who would support me to the ends of the earth and just wants me to succeed at whatever I do.
Which leads me onto the 3rd one, wouldn't need to sell the house (see answer to question 1) as it's Tony pays for everything. (See supportive husband question 2). He would quite happily sell everything (except for the cats) to see me follow a dream.
This post has made me realise how lucky I am. I'm having 'It's a Wonderful Life' moment...... there it is.... ok, I'm done!
Hey, thanks for good wishes. That’s especially nice to a stranger sitting in some other part of the country! Who says that writers are back-biting, kiddie eating, granny-selling snakes anyway…?
It definitely wasn’t me…
On another thought - considering other competitions I’ve been a part of or heard discussed, getting anywhere would be unexpected – let alone getting to the problem of time demands... I’d seriously be happy with a letter saying ‘we liked it’, or ‘at least it wasn’t sh!t…’ at this point, I don’t know about you!?
P.S. Aurora congrats on the supportive hubby... that's the best prize you could hope for.
