My apologies folks. But I’ve had about as much as I can take of this forum. Its content has deteriorated and its supportive nature has been compromised by a growing fear of being slammed for ‘forming collectives’ ‘being in a clique’ et al. However this thread has pushed me over the edge – and I am now uncertain that I will return. Hence I feel I have to respond to this thread and explain why I disagree so much that I no longer want to return.

“Before I take my leave of this invigorating forum I would like to impart a few words ( as words are our lifeblood in this hyperspace ) To create anything you need criticism – someone or something who has to play “devils advocate” otherwise you just think what you are doing is okay”
No. You don’t have to play ‘devil’s advocate’. If the writing is good, then it should be pointed out that it is good – not damned for the sake of damning.
quote:
“ - but it may not really not be - (a good case for writing in a team – which is what I think you are trying to do but I still think it’s all a bit shrouded)”
Here we go again – poor old Moonie is a self-inflicted minority! Go back to the CO-OP threads and you’ll see that we couldn’t have been MORE public about it!
quote:
– When people criticise you it hurts but you have to accept it
NO YOU DON’T. Uninvited criticism is tantamount to harassment. You should only accept – and indeed invite – criticism from someone who you trust and respect.
quote:
“and make a judgement on it and then argue against it rationally without taking things personally and then using abusive language - I don’t remember ever using abusive language because as a writer I think that is the lowest common demoninator? Do quote me if I did use abusive language – I have a bank of it thrust at me.”
Oh you paragon of virtue! Do remind us all why you were deleted from the Forum and had to generate a new handle? Please practice what you preach.
quote:
“Some people in this forum I feel take things too personally”
Only when you have made it personal.
quote:
“ – they cannot read between the lines (excuse the pun)”
You keep stating that you are a writer. Therefore you should command the skills that prevent your audience having to read between the lines! If you want your audience to know something – tell them! If you want them to take an image – give it to them!
quote:
“ – they also form opinions about what I have or haven’t achieved in terms of my literary history (without evidence to back up that opinion)”
The only opinion that I have formed is that you are a disruptive and destructive element on this forum – and have been deleted (both individual posts and entire identity) by the moderator of this forum for that very reason.
quote:
I love writing – I love performers - I love seeing it performed but I can’t stand people who reject criticism
Then how about only giving criticism when it has been requested. Else – Shut up.
quote:
- they won't make me stop writing even though I entered this forum to get support - keep going the rest of you who love seeing your art come alive!! Just keep writing and don't ever be afraid of criticism!!!!!
I would never tell anyone to stop writing. I have a great passion for this art form. However, there are too many people out there that are bitter and twisted, and would sooner slam other writers for not agreeing with them, rather than hone their skills and grow. This has now led me to rethink the way I support (and gain support from) other writers. I do not believe this is the place to accomplish this anymore.
