me and my dad are going to bordeaux for a weekend and to watch bordeux v psg. i cant wait . was just wondering if any of you have recommendations of where to go in bordeaux , it would be much appreciated
Hi, this is my first post on this site. I've read it for a while but now I think I can help out. I've been to watch Bordeaux twice at parc lescure and once as an away fan at PSG. Your in for a high charged grudge match as the bordeaux fans do not like PSG one bit! (Although it is not really reciprocated.)
I take it you have tickets?? If not go straight to Place Johnston the ticket office behind the main stand in avenue lescure. It will only cost you 12 euro's to stand in Virage sud behind the goal - which is by far the best place to be.
To get to the ground take the tram Line A from 'Hotel de Ville' going towards 'St Augustin' There is a Stade Chaban Delmas stop which is about 3 minutes from the ground and is right next to 'le rond point' where you can get a pre match beer.
As for places to see I think the guide here covers most of the town but st Andre Cathedral and in particular are not to be missed. It was here that Eleanor of Aquitaine married Henry II so it is of special interest to any English visitors.
Night life is great - take your pick of bars, resturaunts and cafe's around Victoire or Gambetta. There is also an Irish bar called Le Connemara which is a great place for a post-match pint as it is very popular with both locals and tourists alike.
Definately better to buy them on Saturday as this is one of only 3 or 4 games that will pretty much sell out. If they're not selling tickets then at least it's a dummy run to the stadium!! I would assume the Virage sud would be sold out by now but it's always worth a try. I wouldn't worry too much - you will get a ticket for somewhere.
Don't be put off by the shambolic appearence of the ground from the outside, inside it's one of the finest stadiums I've ever been to.
I don't think we're allowed to post links on this board, but if you go to greatestjournal.com, click on photo gallery and search 'girondins_ant' it should bring up a few photo's I took on my last visit in October Vs Sochaux. (only if your interested - there not the best pictures...)
yeah. bordeaux were rubbish. i was stud in the virage sud very good atomosphere there. i want it to be a draw or a bordeaux win because i support p.s.g. but i now like bordeaux so a draw wud of been perfect. the match was the best , bordeaux were very poor smicer was , mavuba was the best player
Brilliant. What was the atmosphere like, because a Stade Toulouse rugby player I know says that "les supporteurs francais de foot sont racailles" or "French football fans are scum"...but I think he was just being a pompous toff.
Racailles? Some of them ,yes, but it's different for each clubs. You can't generalize. I'm sure there is stupid fans in England or in Italy too. But there is a different mentality in rugby, it's more convivial.
the atomosphere was very good i was in the virage sud or visage sud where all the passionate fans were, all of them in this stand were standing on there seats, there was no racisme from what i saw. it was funny really coz i asked this guy where my seats was and he goes this is there virage sud you dont have seats lol. well i think he said that , my french has improved from those past 3 days i feel more confident
i dunno bordeaux was a very nice city i would go back there again. i have already been to milan when i was 13 to watch the milan derby . i like this holidays coz you get to see the beautful cities and get to watch a brilliant and diffrent game of football aswell. I have already said to my dad iwant to go Marseille and Nice, so we might go next year , you can get cheep flight from liverpool to nice and from birmingham to Marseille
In my experiance the Bordeaux Ultra's and Devils are very anti-racist. Bordeaux as a city is very accepting of all cultures and everyone is welcome at the ground. On my last visit there was a big Ultra's against racism tifo, much more impressive than the selection of badly made 'Kick it out' leaflets we got at the Kassam stadium a week later. The French crowds are just as passionate but seem to be more friendly. I thought I may have been a little un-welcome being English and with quite poor French language skills (due to my experiances of the general aggresive attitude of fans at our grounds) but we were welcomed into the virage Sud crowd. When I went to PSG (in the Bordeaux end of course!!) some fans took photo's of me and my friend wearing Bordeaux shirts but with our Oxford scarfs! They were pleased to have supporters abroad.
I don't think he's looking for a move right away just that some time in the future he would like to play in England. But you do make a fair point, there are too many CALCULATED comments flying around about players dreaming of a move to their 'favourite' club.
