french football is not rubbish, we have very good teams . look at lyon-breme in champion's league (3-0) and auxerre-ajax amsterdam in UEFA (3-1) :-)

I enjoyed watching Monaco knock out Chelsea and Real last season. Their 8:3 demolition of Deporivo wasn't bad either.

Am I right in saying Lyon finished above Man U in the group stages this season?

It looks likely that Liverpool will be the only English team left in the champion’s league after this round.

Lyon could go into CL Semi-final for the second time, while manutd is out of CL (two 1-0 defeats to Milan). Marseille won UEFA Cup last season, beat Liverpool and Newcastle on the way up.

Unfortunately, Marseille didn't win the UEFA cup last season (a "red card" for Barthez in the final

But are the majority of French players not the product of the central training school [but the name escapes me...]. If the majority of the good work is done at a neutral-location then it means that the league could be of a mediocre standard and still produce wonderful players.

My own opinion is that the Ligue 1 is very average with only a handful of 'big' clubs [like a larger version of the Portuguese league]

the premiership is utterly overrated and even more of a bore this season than normal,which is saying something.
Has anyone actually walked past a pub,seen a sign saying "live tonight-Bolton vs Portsmouth" and thought"wow,i must get down to that later..."

French Football is definately not rubbish. Some of the Premiership and La Liga's superstars plied their trade at their French clubs. Look at Giuly(Monaco),Chimbonda(Bastia), Cisse(Auxerre), Smertin(Bordeaux),Adebayor(Monaco), Henry(Monaco) and Essien(Lyon). And there are still quality players there like Mavuba and Rothen. Proved my point.
