Why are there so few goals in the French league. I think in one weekend there were 6 0-0 draws! Is it the tactics? The managers? The creatively-lacking players? Great defenders? Great goal keepers? Or is it just un-fashionable to score anymore in France similar to the Emirates as Arsenal have proved?
It's our big problem. There are people who say that it's a problem of mentality, and that it's the tactic of some coachs. At the beginning of the season, we had a lot of goals in Ligue 1. And then at the end, the majority of the teams played a defensive game. (fortunately not Marseille, thanks to our coach).
Then there are other people who think that we would scored more goals if the big teams (like Chelsea) didn't take our best players every year.
Then, there is the fact that we have exellent goalkeepers. But i don't think that it could be an excuse, because they have exellents goalkeepers in Italy and Spain too.
Patrice Evra said that it was impressed by the winner's mentality in England, something that he didn't see in France. He said that in France, some coachs's priority isn't to win a game, but not to lose it. So they are happy with a draw.
We love you Hauru faults and all It's strange though because I always felt a league is defined by the more successful teams. So if the league-winner plays negative football as Chelsea did then more teams are likely to adopt a similar approach. But in France it appears that Lyon play good football as do L'OM but others seem to be content in cancelling out their opositions which is sad. Also I don't think that having good players is a pre-requisite for playing good football. In the Prem Chelsea have far better players than Reading but I'd rather watch Reading as they are more entertaining. My impression is that French football just needs to losen up a little and for the manager's to show a little creativity and willingness to play good football.
We have a new young manager in France: Laurent Blanc ! He will now be Bordeaux's manager . It's great to see an ex-legend becoming manager. I hope that thanks to that Bordeaux will stop to be a boring team. And Guy Roux is back , he will be Lens's manager.
Yes, but he has a strong character and apparently he had some problems with the others players and the coach. Ricardo (Bordeaux's ex-manager) will now be Monaco's manager.
In January there was talk of Deschamps to Chelsea, but I suppose that won't happen now. Sven is still in the mix, though I'm not sure where he'll end up.
There is an interview of Deschamps in L'équipe today. He says that he doesn't know what he will be do, and where he will be manager. He says that he refused to be Lyon's manager, because Aulas asked him only 2 days after leaving La juve, so it was too soon for him. Even if he was interested, he refused Manchester city too, because there is no French school for his child at Manchester. Bilbao is now interrested by him.
It's the way most leagues seem to be going. There are only a few teams in each 'top' league that want to play football. I can see both sides of the coin, no-one wants to lose. Besides, I'm a Gooner so I don't have it so bad, a bit of tightening up at the back wouldn't go amiss though!!
I don't know, maybe it's just a case that pretty much all the 'top' French players ply their trade in other countries. Apart from a few at Lyon and the decent younger players most of Les Bleus seem to be elsewhere.
