People talk about partition and how it benefited muslim people but it only benfitted certain groups of muslims, those who belonged to west pakistan not east. Bangali people suffered alot of oppression by the pakistanis even though they were all muslims. That is why \i would like to draw peoples attention that the partition wasnt a glourios victory muslims, we suffered alot too.
Although East Pakistan accounted for a majority of the country's population, political power remained firmly in the hands of West Pakistanis, specifically the Punjabis. Since a straightforward system of representation based on population would have concentrated political power in East Pakistan, the West Pakistani establishment came up with the "One Unit" scheme, where all of West Pakistan was considered one province. This was solely to counterbalance the East wing's votes. Ironically, after the East broke away to form Bangladesh, the Punjab province insisted that politics in the rump West Pakistan now be decided on the basis of a straightforward vote, since Punjabis were more numerous than the other groups, such as Sindhis, Pashtuns, or Balochs.
After the assassination of Liaquat Ali Khan in 1951, political power began to be concentrated in the President of Pakistan, and eventually, the military. The nominal elected chief executive, the Prime Minister, was frequently sacked by the establishment, acting through the President.
There are other examples too, for example although Pakistan supported the democratic right of the Kashmiri's for self-rule, they ignored that of Bangladesh, Why? The exact same context in reverse could be said of India. India supported Bangladesh creation but not independence of Kashmir or Khalistan. Why do we not hear more about the autonomy of Baluchistan, a Pakistani province or of the movement in Sindh? Aren't there now movements in Bangladesh who are seeking indepedence for themselves?
Governments and politicians my dear use every dirty rule to whip up support for causes which will benefit themselves. Holy war, Jihad, War on terror etc. are used and exploited to stir up the simple comman man, and we do get wound up dont we?
The Bangladesh independence was the unfinished business of Partition. Pakistan Generals unleashed unprecedented terror campaign as mentioned: link
quote:
On February 22, 1971 the generals in West Pakistan took a decision to crush the Awami League and its supporters. It was recognized from the first that a campaign of genocide would be necessary to eradicate the threat: "Kill three million of them," said President Yahya Khan at the February conference, "and the rest will eat out of our hands." (Robert Payne, Massacre [1972], p. 50.) On March 25 the genocide was launched
One can say Indira Ghandhi, Indias then PM took to long to attack, the millions of refugees that this mass genocide was generating was colossal.
Kashmir state of the subcontinent is partitioned in all but name. The Line of control would be better of becoming the new boundary as both India and Pakistan will not cede one inch of Kashmir state.
1947 Jinnah sent in raiders to force Kashmir to merge with Pakistan, despite opposition from Dr Farooqs Abdullah's party: link
quote:
The actions of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, who became the founder of Pakistan, added to the misery of the area. According to the autobiography of Sheikh Abdullah, when a National Conference activist, Ali Mohammad Tariq, asked Jinnah soon after the partition of the Indian continent whether the future of Kashmir would be decided by the people of Kashmir, he was stunned by Jinnah's riposte: "Let the people go to hell." Pakistan cut off supplies of essential commodities such as salt and petrol to Jammu & Kashmir; it also stopped its supply of currency notes and small coins to the Imperial Bank in Kashmir
Pakistani backed militants and a number of Indian security forces have committed atrocities: link
Khalistan, movement was led by the dark Lord Bhindrawale. He had some just points but used the dark side to woo his forces and bluntly asked the Hindu faith people to leave Punjab:
On November 17, 1983, Bhindranwale bluntly demanded 'that all Hindus should leave Punjab On August 17, 1983, Bhindranwale asked Sikh youth to buy a motorcycle and a revolver and threatened to kill 5,000 Hindus in an hour if the police delayed the minibus he had sent to fetch Amrik Singh who had just been released from police custody.59
Bhindrawale and his men also committed acts of atrocities within the Golden Temple Complex, as in the case of Baljit Kaur who was tortured over her role in the assasination of Bhindrawales top hit man : Surinder Singh Sodhi. In the sewers around the Golden Temple complex Body parts were found. Inspector Atwal was killed after prayers at the Golden Temple by Bhindrawale's men, and Gucharan Singh and 75 other people were killed by the militants.
Indira Ghandhis abominable decision to attack the sacred Golden Temple complex to get this one man Bhindrwale, resulted in human rights abuses committed. link
When Indira Ghandhi was assasinated in Nov 1984, a genocide of Sikh faith people occured in Delhi for 3 days resulting in about 10,000 lives. This was led by Congress party officials before the Indian govtn decided to let the Army loose and protect its citizens. The guilty evil culprits have yet to be brought before justice and this is a damning shame on the Indian government.
Balouchistan province in Pakistan province has fought for greater automony if not outright independence, since it was forced to join Pakistan in 1948: link
As for Sindh province, their future is interlinked to Balouchistan. Ultmately it is for the people of Paksitan to deicde their future. If the militants along the Badlands of the Afghan border exert more of an influence this couls spell doom for the region.
Pakistan's behaviour in the war with East Pakistan(now Bangladesh) was truely disgraceful. Their soldiers raped the women of East Pakistan, saying these people are still hindus at heart and needed to cleaned that blood out of them. This was especially teling, as the likes of mullah Sunking and his ilk, often gloss over the fact that certain continent wasn't islamic ....until the religeous colonist arabs turn up.
