An interesting poll idea, Reckless One. I personally voted that they shouldn't be taxed (I am not fat), but already laid out my reasons in the other thread.
Maybe we should somehow advertise this in the main "Tax the Fat" thread so that the poll goes on here while the discussion continues there? It would be interesting to see the opinions of everyone arguing on the other thread...
It doesn't matter whether you're fat or not, A-D; you don't have to answer if you don't want, but I still reckon this is a quite interesting question. I think Reckless One just wanted to see if opinion is divided by weight, so that only options 1 & 4 will receive votes, or if all four categories will receive some votes.
The original thread already has the same question without the added variable, and the results are fairly even, so I think it's interesting to see how these categories divide up.
What silly ideas Reckless One.Why would obese people vote to pay an extra fat tax?,that would be like turkeys voting for christmas.Unless of course they're stupid, fat people that is not turkeys. And if thats one of the best documentaries you've seen then you can't have seen many. That wasn't a documentary that was a vicious attack on fat people which added nothing to the current debate on obesity. It was cunningly called "a provocative personal polemic"which protected the TV channel from accusations of unfairness.Unlike newspapers TV channels are not supposed to show bias.
How are you going to force fatties to your compulsory fitness and nutrition camps?.What if they wont go?.Do the police round them up,put them in lorries and take them to your camps or do they throw them in jail?.On the positive side they'll be easy to find as they can't disguise themselfs very well. Will it be a special"fat police"who will enforce the BMI ?.Where will the money come from to pay for these radical changes?.
I know! lets TAX THE FAT.Opps...slight problem Reckless One, they're all locked up in your camps.
IF you liked Coren's polemic and i see from your posts that you did, then you will positively cream over his diatribe in the Daily Mail,Saturday,May27th,2006.Should be available in your local library or the Daily Mail web site.A little taster to pique your interest;"waddle, legs like giant kebabs, puff and sweat, pudgy hand"and thats only in the first eight lines. Then he really lets rip.
To be honest i think that all these obese people need to ask themselves: are they healthy?? i think thats what the main concern is and all the slating is just a form of bullying, although it does seem to win people over, i myself am not obese and cycle everyday, is it that hard to fit in a little bit of exercise in a 24 hour day?

ITS TO HIGHLIGHT THE FACT THAT FAT PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS VOTE AGAINST BEING TAXED,
IM SURE THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING FOR OTHER FATTIES HEALTHCARE, AS THEY ARE GREEDY THEMSELVES
BUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOOKED AFTER THEMSELVES SHOULDNT PAY FOR OTHERS WHO HAVENT.
FOR THE SAME REASON I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR DRUGGIES
fatties should have a card stating their fat rating
fatties who eat to much through greed should be taxed to pay for their healthcare, the same as smokers and drinkers already are.
people who eat more callories than they burn off get fat.
30mins of exercise 3 days a week isnt much
How do you suggest the massive cost of greedy peoples healthcare should be paid for?
i think the extra unnesessary food should be given to countries who need it, millions are starving to death, while a vast majority here are stuffing their chubby faces deliberatley and are too lazy to exercise.
you sound like you are fat yourself, correct me if i am wrong?
BUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOOKED AFTER THEMSELVES SHOULDNT PAY FOR OTHERS WHO HAVENT.
terribly sorry to burst your bubble but that is the definition of the society we live in: a welfare state. if you don't like it, i suggest you move to a different country but then again, where? most Western countries have some form of welfare system......besides if it wasn't for this welfare state you and i live in, you wouldn't have received an education, healthcare if and when you require it, and being looked after in your old age.

firstly, i would like you to define what "extra unecessaryfood is....secondly, how naive are you? that is a stupid thing to say, it is just like what your mum and dad used to say to you to make you eat your greens: "there's people starving all over the world blah blah blah" or "an African family could live for a week on that dinner you're eating blah blah" do you get the point that i'm making, Reckless One because I am actually making a point here as opposed to your post which was nothing: there was no facts, no opinion, just a silly rant....which you've already used before.
you sound like you are fat yourself, correct me if i am wrong?
once again sorry to burst your bubble, but you stand corrected, i am a prefect weight for my height. However, i shouldn't really answer questions like this because it is irrelevant to the argument which was Tax the Fat. The whole nature of my posts on this subject (in both threads) has been my objection to a group of society being demonised for one man's profiteering. Furthermore, the title of the thread is silly: the fat ARE taxed all the time & as you are so keen to point continually, the fat eat more than they need, so therefore they actually end up paying more tax than healthy people like yourself. You might think this is a bold statement but i have a rarity in these threads: some facts to back up my points. Certain items of food and drink are taxable at the rates of 12.5% and 21%. Food thats liable for the 12.5% band include flour or egg based products such as cakes, biscuits, cream donuts, jam donuts, fudge donuts, iced donuts caramel shortcake, do you get the point Reckless One? Tax and more tax: once again as you have pointed out the fat eat lots more than the require, lots more eating=lots more tax. I hope thats simple enough for you to understand but in case you missed that, i'll do it agian for you.... Foods liable under the 21% band include sweets, chocolates, confectionary, crisps, ice-cream and soft, fizzy drinks: all the bad things that fat people stuff their trolleys full of in Tesco. And once again: lots more eating=lots more tax esp. at 21%! Tax, tax, tax.... Once again i do not think you have read Giles article, which is ashame because i think you'd enjoy it immensely.
you sound like a facist yourself, are you? correct me if i am wrong.....
This means totally ignore my opinion because I am fat so my answer is predictable so go listen to the skinny people who will never understand being addicted to food.
Addicted to food, thats one i haven't heard, unless it's an illness?? you see i like riding my bike, BUT am not addicted, same for you with food, you just can't control it!!!

Hi, Warden
Good to hear that you exercise and that you aren't obese. Would you be able to give us a breakdown of what you eat throughout the day. I exercise daily, walking the dogs and cycling, and a typical diet for me is fruit and yoghurt in the morning, with a croissant; a salad at lunchtime; and a salad in the evening perhaps with couscous or new potatoes, and some fruit for dessert, and, for a little touch of wickedness, a glass of white wine in the evenings. My weight remains exactly the same - it doesn't fluctuate up or down - but I remain decidedly rounded like the women on my father's side of the family. (I have a photo of them at a family wedding - none of them are above 5'2" and the women are all built like dowager duchesses. The men are little, bald and ballshaped.)
I did try cutting out the croissant and the glass of wine, but it made absolutely no difference to the scales unfortunately... (There is a theory that cutting food out actually leads your body to believe there is a famine, and it goes into starvation mode, and works even more efficiently at getting more out of very little "good-doers". Therefore, the more you diet, the more difficult it is to lose weight. Perhaps skinny people's metabolisms are actually inefficient... )
Anyway, there are always pluses and minuses to everything. People who are not carrying as much weight as more obese people might live longer over the bit, if they aren't type A's and don't go with a heart attack. But should there be some kind of global famine tomorrow, the well-covered would probably last a bit longer, and be instrumental in any recovery efforts, having that extra bit in reserve!

Most obese people say things like that, and for the most part they are lieing. (note, I'm not saying you are fat or lieing).
You need to do more exercise. Simple physiology says if you eat less and exercise more then the weight comes off.

I do see it as an addiction because the human body craves food.. It needs it to survive. Its not something you can compare to riding on your bike, you can live without that.
I have 3 dogs - two lurchers and a retriever. The older lurcher is basically a housedog now, has very little exercise, and gets as much food, if not more than the retriever. We have trouble keeping weight on him. The retriever bustles around all day, and has far more stamina than either of the lurchers. However, she will put on weight a lot easier than either of the other two. This is down to a different metabolism, genetics, and more laid-back demeanor. People are similar. Ethiopia always wins at long distance running because of their athletes' wiry physiques. Other nations excel at shot putt and discus because of their athletes' more robust natural builds. Even within the UK, you will find different physiques because of different ancestral backgrounds. Things are not as simple as you would wish them to be...
ok ok ok, so, where does your fat come from if it isn't from what you put in your mouth?
It doesn't matter what your metabolism is, if you eat more food than you need then you put weight on. If you eat less food than you need then you lose weight.
