Good to see somebody attempting to stand up for Channel 4 on this forum, but:
quote:
If Sky has a contract that says they get to decide whether to make More4 free or part of a subscriptions service then I hope the people posting here are off complaining in Sky's forums as well.
This remains a moot point, since Channel 4 has made no statement in respect of this.
Also, the main point of contention is not the fact that More4 is encrypted, but that Channel 4 promoted it as being free-to-air on digital satellite and continued to do so even after it became clear that this would not be the case.
Irrespective of who has the power to decide on matters of channel availability on each platform, the issue is one that should have been discussed at the channel's inception. It is inconceivable that Channel 4 should only become aware that More4 was to be part of a subscription package on Sky on the Friday (ie one working day) before launch. If, however, this is the case, then somebody at Channel 4 has blundered monumentally.
quote:
Tthe people who may have some justification complaining about More are often showing themselves to be such abusive and petty I am losing any sympathy me and my excellent freeview reception might have had
That's as may be, but much the initial annoyance of many of those complaining about what they consider to have been deception on the part of Channel 4 have had their annoyance compounded by the company's refusal to issue any statement on the issue, or even to enter in any discussion, be it through this forum or elsewhere.
Add to this the fact that early threads of complaint posted on Monday were removed by the forum editor, who also retrospectively edited his/her own posts when it was pointed out that he/she was continuing to publish misleading information regarding channel availability, and you have the perfect recipe for a baying mob.
As for concerns about losing sympathy, your attitude seems to be very much "I'm all right Jack. Up yours!" Your Freeview reception may be excellent, but 25% of the country is still unable to receive it.
In short, while I am of course grateful for your kind offer of lessons on "how to use a forum", perhaps you might do better to direct your pedagogical aspirations to the editor of this forum, who seems to have become somewhat elusive on this issue.
