In my eyes it totally depends on what people label as "cult".

I know what cult means.

I'm sure you'll find people who won't class Donnie Darko as "cult". I've seen people class all kinds of things as "cult"...The Crow, Fight Club, Nightmare Before Christmas, this whole Spongebob Squarepants thing.

Prime example of what I was talking about earlier. Don't get me wrong, I like Goodfellas but I wouldn't class it as cult...maybe classic but not cult.

Hmmm LOL well I dont even know what 'cult' is!

I mean in my humble opinion no way for example can Reservior Dogs or Goodfellas or Halloween etc etc be classified as 'cult' - these films i think are much to popular to be 'cult'.

I suppose my fav cult films (Im not even sure if they are 'cult' though) would be maybe True Romance or Wild At Heart or Hairspray.

Yea, I'm not sure where you draw the line between 'cult' and 'mainstream'. If you regard forien films as 'cult' I'd say "Chinese Ghost Story"! Excellent film!

Another one no one has mentioned "Harold And Maud". I usually hate rom/coms, but with it's pre-goth dark humor, and hippyish sence of rebellion, it is a must see film.

The Wicker Man definitely counts - awesome film.

Donnie Darko I would class as cult.

Also 'Heathers'.

I thought it might classify because of the huge following it has.

??????

Seriously, explain how in the hell Goodfellas can be classed as "cult". If anything it falls under "classic" or "mainstream success".

Your stereotypical "cult" success has a small following, that in time slowly grows. It doesn't have a big following, but it has a few die hard fans...I guess you can look at stuff like Donnie Darko, Wickerman, a debateable movie would be Evil Dead...that sort of falls under what I mentioned above.

In my eyes, saying Goodfellas is a cult movie/classic, is like saying American Pie is an "arthouse" masterpiece. Or Red Heat should have been an Oscar winner...

That's not even a question
The Lost Boys hands down, a supreme X generation Cult classic '(72 to 84 group) Kiefer was such a fox!

'Last fire will rise behind those eyes, black house will rock. Blind boys don't lie'

If I've got the verse slightly wrong, sorry it's been a while since I've watched it.

Thanks.
The only thing that gets me about the film is they don't explain the characters properly. and of course being 1987 the diastrous absence of the fashion police. When Corey Haim first walks into the comics shop he's wearing something that looks like it's come of a deckchair!! Big Grin

can't believe no one's mentioned "Withnail and I", also love Bladerunner.

I think the 80's movies directed by John Hughes ie Ferris Buellers day off, sixteen candles etc are developing quite a cult following now. Like many other movies now deemed "cult", they were slated and/ or ignored when first released.

Withnail and I, Donnie Darko, The Wicker man, The 80's Brat pack movies, The Rocky Horror show, Heathers, Beetlejuice (is that cult?) and the nightmare before christmas.

Goodfellas is an all time classic IMO. Not cult at all.
In fact I'm not exactly sure how many of mine are Confused
