I thought the film was genius but some parts definitely make you feel at bit sick, as they are supposed to. I think Kubrick created most of the controversy himself didn't he?

Quite a few of his films have been controvertial though. I think that full metal jacket was pretty conytrovertial when it came out.

I went to see it 5 times in the cinema when it came out,one of the mates used to dress in the full clockwork orange outfit, including the eyelash and the bloody eyeballs on the braces, walking stick, the lot! I remember my mum being flabbergasted when she seen him! Teenagers of my era were hooked on the film, the music, the ultra-violence & MM's performance as Alex.

I saw it a few years ago and although it was OK I don't think I'd bother watching it again. Full Metal Jacket is another over hyped film... soo the first half is in a training camp where to my astonishment a fat bloke finds it difficult and then shock horror in the second half a sniper turns out to be a woman. Eek

A Clockwork Orange is a masterpieace of both film and literature. Stanely Kubricks excellent depiction of the book not only gives the book glirifed justice (not inclduing the last chapter) but also creates a cult pheonomina amongst audiences. A genius film in every aspect, although controversary over the depiction of such rape and trasversty is only that of the then stubborned minded ignorance of those that wished to live in a life of no wrong doing. The film was banned due to Stanley Kubricks own safety, fearing for his family, and was not relased until his death.

Not Kubricks best film, Dr Strangelove,2001:A.S.O.,The Shining,Paths Of Glory,Full Metal Jacket and Spartacus are all better but it does have its moments and the violence in it has been completely hyped out of all proportion; its quite tame compared to a really violent and shocking film like Irreversible; infact I really don't understand why A Clockwork Orange was banned at all.

I thought Kubrick imposed the ban himself and that's why it didn't get un-banned until after he died.

No need to Blush It might be true. I googled up a few different Kubrick web-sites and they all say different things so I'm not really sure what the truth is.

I think it's true. I studied this film intensely at A Level and did my final exam on it and that's what we were told by our tutor. Kubrick received death threats towards his family so he withdrew the film.

Radio 4 interviewed the actor who played Alex last week and he also said that the film was withdrawn because of death threats made to Kubricks family

I remember watching this film for the first time and being so shocked by it. I cried whilst watching it.
I think it's a great film, definately deserves the cult status it has.

ACO is definately up there in my favourite films of all time
I loved both the film and the book they completely blew me away
The fact that I'm also really interested in psychology made this film even more appealing to me
I agree some bits made me feel a bit uneasy but I think they were needed to make the film what it is and I would recommend it to anyone!
