I've just watched the recording of this film. It was on TV about 2 weeks ago. English is not my mother tongue so sometimes I miss the right important word. Someone could tell me if Harrold's enemy was or wasn't the IRA? And is it possible to have such a bad ending? Hopkins's performance is unique.

yes it was the IRA , the ending is not that bad . from watching the scene early in the film you know what happens . he would have been driven to a secluded area and shot and dumped . thats how the ira work . you didnt need to see the scene to know what happens . man on fire with denzil washington has a similar ending .

Pierce Brosnan was the IRA assassin.

If it isnt bad enough its being remade, Paul W.S. Anderson is at the helm. Oh joy.

Thanks for your explanations and cheering me up! Wink
It is nice to know I can turn to someone when I don't understand a film (mainly American gangster films because of the accent and slang)

If the US remake it, it might have a Walt Disney ending like The Vanishing!

Another question. I thought the IRA was only political and would not mixed with gangsters. After all they were supposed to be Catholic fanatic?

Mille mercis for all the info! Pokershades, I even learnt a new word: henchman! But what do you mean with m8??

I hate those desperate endings! For weeks I change them in my head!! I know it was an effective and realistic, even artistic ending. Still.. I've never recovered from the ending of The Vanishing!! The Americans neither! Their remake had a Walt Disney ending!!!

The Vanishing is not English, it's Dutch m8!! And I don't agree with you, it didn't date! It's like an Hitchcock, a classic forever!

This moment is a gift...That's why it's the present.
