Watched this quite awhile ago....did video it last night but haven't had the chance to rewatch it yet. From what I can remember....it's good. Dark and Mr Depp is as lovely as always in it.

Got it on DVD mainly because of Johnny Depp. Good film, though not sure about his accent, and quite detailed. The only thing was that they used some phrases (can't remember which ones) that I don't think would have been used at the time, but, perhaps, it was meant to be like that.

I like it a lot.....thought Depp was terrific...very atmospheric(with Prague standing in for Victorian London) - admitadly the plot was pinched from a Sherlock Holmes movie called Murder by Decree....although that in itself was one of numerous theories running on the true identity of the Ripper....a thread on this topc is currently running on the C4 History site.....

I like the film. I admit I watched it originally because it has Depp in it but it truly is a good film

As far as adaptations of graphic novels go this is one of the better ones. Still would prefer to read Alan Moore's classic graphic novel, but the film is good, although very different in terms of graphic violence and sex. Depp was as always brilliant as was ian holm (brilliant at playing derranged characters!).

I thought it was really good and enjoyed it apart from Heather Graham (Mary Kelly) I thought she was badly cast, not at all a beliveable 'working girl'. And that bit at the end where she looked ike a 1940's Holywood star was dreadful, as was her relationship with Abberline. Pure Hollywood Full marks for the rest of it though.

I thought the casting of Heather Graham as Mary Kelly wasnt a good choice. She wasnt a beliveable 'street girl' at all. Also her relatioship with Abberline wasnt a good addition either. As for the 1940's Hollywood Star look to that final scene ....awful! The rest of it was very good and I really enjoyed it.

I recommend the DVD, the special features are amazing, especially the featurette detailing the various Jack the Ripper theories. The one outlined in the movie is official theory #3 I think. Anyway it's fascinating.

It is a good adaptation, as far as adaptations go. I agree about the casting of Heather Graham as Mary Kelly.

The ending wrecked it for me. What a brilliant character- a narcotic -addled psychic detective! They could have got more mileage out of the role. And it would have meant another film with the divine Johnny Depp !!
