Hola!
I’m currently a media student studying in the UK and for my Critical Research paper I have to research into women and film. As part of my primary research I have to find out people's own knowledge, opinions and views of the subject and I thought the best place to do this is of course on a message board designed for film fans.

So, what I basically want to know (and please the more detail you give the better I can evaluate your answers ^^) is How far do you think that female stereotype in film has changed over the last century? Would you say the representation of female Hollywood symbols has changed? How do symbolic figures like Marilyn Monroe, Clara Bow and Lauren Bacall differ from modern day A-listers like Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman?

And anything else you have to say about the representation of Women in Film or anything related to this would be highly appreciated!

Thanks,

- Vicki

I'm more worried about the stereotype that's beginning to form in relation to media studies students who post here.

*Sighs* Look I know we bug you when we post here, but the matter of the fact is is that were TOLD to post on a message board relating to film to get as many view points as we can, it's part of our course it helps us get a decent grade.

If it bothers you that much why bother coming to these topics that are obviously posted by a college student? It just wastes your time and mine.

CMON give her a break, we all have question we need answered and asking for help is not a weakness

OK My humble opinion is

Women in film have not changed that much over the past 100 years. It is the film making that has changed so much and women like men have had to adapt and be more versitile and more demanding of themselves as actors and as women in an ever evolving industry, where to reach the top and stay there requires a lot of determination, strength and belief in one's talent and flexibility to do different roles which cover different physical and mental strengths.

That is my opinion.

It only bothers me slightly, and it couldn't be a waste of time to wind up a student fretting for ideas for an essay or thesis.
I would have thought students have lots of time to waste too - hence all the drinking, s@x, hi-jinks, devil worshipping etc..

Maybe I was being a bit harsh, if so, apologies

this week's 'time out' has a article in its film section about how women are unrepresented in film comedy now compared to the 30/40/50s.
