SPOILER ONLY FOR BOBWALLETT
Please dont look if you havent seen the film - The Man With the X-ray Eyes.
(Actual Spoiler)
Dr James Xavier pulls his eyes out from the sockets due to the preacher he meets telling him to rip them out. He says something similar to "if thy own eyes offend thee, rip them out". And because the Dr can see the structure of the universe and god looking back at him, he rips them out.

No problem bob If you do watch it again then you will find its very anti-drug other than being a Sci Fi film. Dr Xavier using his eye drops could be related to LSD at the time. With each drop taking him further into what he's seeing, advancing the stages of his X-Ray vision (Hallucinations). Just something I noticed regarding it.

Is it on DVD?

Its on DVD Bob but it has no extras and is also part of a midnite movie series. Amazon only has used copies but ebay has some sellers with it. The only problem like I said, is no extras and no inlay booklet. Maybe MGM will bring out a superior version in time. This is why I would like it be remade but using someone like Aronofsky or Fincher to direct it. Its credited as Roger Cormans greatest work but the ending is not what he wanted, he gave in to studio pressure. If you do look for it, its also called "X".

I would agree with you but there are many films out there which had a story which lacked the technology we have today. When it comes down to movies which were completely flawless from their age, then yes - they shouldnt be remade. The day someone remakes Lawrence of Arabia or The Godfather is the day film and hopefully the person who remakes them dies.

The man with X-Ray Eyes........
According to Stephen King in Danse Macabre, the final line of the film was cut. Just after Ray Milland plucks out his eyes he says: "I can still see!"
I dunno. I just read it and haven't seen the film since I was 12. If it's true though, I would put that line back in!

Heat, not the whole film, just the sloppy ending. brilliant up till then

I would rekmake "Pet Sematary" cos the book goes into a lot more detail than the film did and it explains more, too. The Wendigo should have made an appearance, that would have explained why the Indians abandoned their burial ground.
Bring back Brookie, you philistines!!!!

Thanks for that. It would be the sort of film Stephen King would've watched as a kid being as how crazy it is. Also agree that it should be the end.

I see this thread lots and wonder why you'd bother - there probably are a few decent remakes, but on the whole it's lazy-toss and perfectly fine films are re-made for no justifiable reason. I mean, what was wrong with perfectly great films like 'Sunset Boulevard', 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', 'Psycho', 'Get Carter', 'Nikita', 'The Return of Martin Guerre', 'The Ring', & 'Wings of Desire'? Just lazy Hollywood-folk with no imagination and I don't see the reason that special effects are superior as a reason to re-make - apart from that fact CGI looks as suspect as technicolour in stuff like the Star Wars prequels, I don't care that much for special effects. Give me films like 'Cat People', 'The Exorcist', 'Dark Star' & 'Jaws' that emphasise character/acting/script/style more than special effects (some of which are limited). I find if something is well-written, acted etc I tend to look over the fake-shark or whatever - whereas CGI just seems hyper-hyperreal... Having said that, I'd like to see another adaptation of Nathaneal West's 'The Day of the Locust' as the 1976-version was a bit of a let down. That's not really a remake, as you can have multiple adaptations of the same book...

I'm ashamed on behalf of Mr Spielberg, but it would have to be A.I
What a great concept, artificial children for couple who cant have kids, futurisitic, emotional, yet totally crapy story line and messed up further when robots got boring, he thought he'd chuck in an alien or two. Crapness in Abreviation: A.I.
Take the concept, improve the story line.

Would like to see 1984 redone properly as the original didnt really do the book any justice really.

The problem with the Texas chainsaw massacre is that they tried to make it a follow up when in fact it was a complete remake which imo didnt do all that badly obviously was a few things lost like the camera angles & stuff along with the remake not really portraying leatherface the way he was supposed to. Agree with you with regards to CGI it is overdone in films have heard that it was overdone in the new King Kong film. How many times does CGI get in the way of a good story? Too many times in my opinion.

A lot of the reasons that films are remade is the fact that many of us are too lazy to get hold of the original and would rather not have to read subtitled Asian movies or watch 30-70 year old SFX. Not me I love to watch them and I feel that the subtitles/seeing how things were done way back then add to the experience. I think the fact that I saw the Jap version of the Ring and Dark Water first biased me toward the Amer remakes. The same thing goes to Dawn of the Dead, I like the remake but it pales in comparison. other things..............
