Back to the Future. A timeless trilogy about time travel. I can watch all three over and over again without getting bored. Classics!

What about the Matrix trilogy. Still not as good as the lord of the rings trilogy but surely without a mention.

Lord Of The Rings for me it was conceived as one whole story from beginning to end and set out from the start to be what it is ...

Star wars OT would get my runner up spot but im afraid the Godfather(as a trilogy) would`nt be in my top five as i refuse to accept the third film as any thing less than an abberation..

I aslo sense a lotta love for Blue, Red and White but i dont think you could convince any fanboy about their merits ...pax

Lord of the Rings simply because it is a masterful adapation of an 'unfilmable' work and because it has a such an emotional impact.

Star wars has to come a close second but I watched that as a young kid and my less evolved mind was more amazed by it than my adult version. Empire Strikes Back is on par with Fellowship, but The Return of the Jedi is a joke that lets the series down. As for the 'prequels' - utter rubbish, which is a shame really, as they let down the originals.

The Apu Trilogy seems to make it on a lot of critics 'Best of..' lists, though never seen it myself.

Seems to me every trilogy has at least one duff film in it to let the other two films down.

Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi
Back To The Future - Part 3
The Godfather - Part 3
Scream - Part 3
The Matrix - Parts 2 & 3
LOTR - The Two Towers
The Man With No Name - A Few Dollars More
Ringu - 0
Indiana Jones - The Temple Of Doom

There's the elephant. He's happy with his balloon. Oh no! It's gone! Where is it? It's not behind the rhino. Look in the alligator's mouth. It's not there either. Ohhhh... the monkey's got it in the tree! He brings it back. They all drink lemonade. The end.

LOTR for me.

Although the original Star Wars were really good.

None of the LOTR films were a let down I don't think.

Pass me the remote love.....

Alright, first off lets clear one thing up: the Godfather III is admittedly not as good as the others, but it's about as good a job as they could have done after 16 years and the continuity with the first II is pretty tight. With that out of the way, I'll address the suggestion that the Matrix Trilogy should be listed. Yes it is visually stunning. Yes it was a good idea to begin with, but it has one flaw which, for me, overrides all others (even the up-their-own-ass idea of having a commentary by philosophers on the DVD). The flaw is this: I can accept that perhaps we are all plugged into an illusionary world; I am prepared to consider that it is really 100 years in the future; I can even harbor the suggestion that the real world consists of a giegeresqe series of tunnels with only two real cities in it, one at the earth's core; but, what I cannot believe is that Neo and Trinity are in love when, throughout all three films, they never even crack a smile in each other's company. Is there love too serious and profound that they can't be friendly or something? It seems like just another manifestation of the film's po-faced self-importance. It's shame. If they'd had the on-screen chemistry of the original Star Wars cast and perhaps a little less computer related metaphorical philoso-babble they'd have made a great trilogy. I think my favourite is still the Star Wars trilogy, but the Godfather's close (admittedly, it is the third installment that most impedes it). I agree with the point that Star Trek 2-4 work as a trilogy, but they are, admittedly superceded by the grandeur of Lord of The Rings (although, interesting point: had anyone noticed that when McCoy gets all wet at the end of Star Trek 4, he looks just like Golem?).

Evil Dead trilogy is a pretty bizarre one. If you think about how it started as a banned video nasty and how it ended as a slapstick comedy adventure story.
