Hello everybody i am a Media studies student and am currently gathering primary and secondary research for my critical research exam. I was wondering if i could ask for your opinion of this question; " To what extent have women's roles in horror movies changed during the 90's, taking into consideration the emerging empowerment of women in the work place and "girl power"? " Films such as "Scream" , “the Descent” "halloween h20", "i know what you did last summer" took on females as lead heroines and showed women to be strong confident and powerful, but do they defeat the villain in a more logical way or represent women as clumsy and use their looks to kill? If you could give me opinions or replies or even disagreements to this statement i would be so grateful! Thank yoooou!
I know that The Silence of the Lambs is not a horror film but every time it manages to give me the creeps after seeing it times and times again.
Your question just reminded me of the female part Clarice Starling in that film. Jodie Foster definately produced a picture of a strong female heroine in the film.
All these other examples you gave here... I'm not a friend of horror films but these ones have just made me laugh!
What other horror film samples could you give to be compared with these ones? Something different?
