Based on Christopher Buckley’s acclaimed 1994 novel of the same title and adapted for the screen by Jason Reitman, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is a fiercely satirical look at today’s “culture of spin”. The hero of THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is Nick Naylor (Eckhart), chief spokesman for Big Tobacco, who makes his living defending the rights of smokers and cigarette makers in today's neo-puritanical culture. Confronted by health zealots out to ban tobacco and an opportunistic senator (Macy) who wants to put poison labels on cigarette packs, Nick goes on a PR offensive, spinning away the dangers of cigarettes on TV talk shows and enlisting a Hollywood super-agent (Lowe) to promote smoking in movies. Nick's newfound notoriety attracts the attention of both tobacco's head honcho (Duvall) and an investigative reporter for an influential Washington daily (Holmes). Nick says he is just doing what it takes to pay the mortgage, but he begins to think about how his work makes him look in the eyes of his young son Joey (Bright).

Saw it. Loved it. Aaron Eckhart's argument on the dangers of Vermont cheese was excellent. JK Simmons was hilarious in it, played the same type character as in Spiderman but cursed here which just made it funnier. Rob Lowe was very good also but not in it enough. And as always, William H Macy was terrific. Didn't like Katie Holmes in it.
And notice that throughout the film, no one smokes.

Really enjoyed this film. I'm loathe to complain about it but it wasn't perfect. I think there were a couple of mis-castings though thankfully there were enough stonkers to make up for that. Loved the dialogue, excellent. Don't hesitate to see it!

Do you think Channel 4 are taking a cut of the DVD sales?
And it's not as if the "New Forum Opening Hours" are strictly new anymore either, is it?
