im doing a media project and this is my question...
wondering if you had any thoughts on this

Does graphic violence in crime films raise controversy in the media which has impact on the public opinions and the way they think?

Thanks

Hi

I think it used to raise controversy, but not any more i think we have become desensitised to violence of any kind in films.

I think the public in general are not influenced by what the media say concerning violence in films, in alot of cases it only serves to wet the appetite for people to go and see them and most people will read it but will want to make up their own mind.

This is just MY opinion

Cheers

I dont know if you're talking about the present, but in the past there has been issues, for example when videos first came out the media linked this with rises in burglary.
Womens groups campained against violence against women in films during the time of the Yorkshire ripper...
It was also reported that the Dunblaine killer was influenced by the film The Terminator, and other serial killers even blamed films like Rocky for their actions.
There was also another man who attacked a police car with a samurai sword and said he had a companion in his act... Jason! from Friday 13th films.
So I guess the media do use this information to blame films and their violence for the public commiting such acts. I dont know if that answers the question much but it might help a little!

i think that graphic violece that is used in films can effect the public with regards to the way in which the public react.

younger people are usually effected mostly by this as they are more easliy influenced by crime and the media!

hello, i think that graphic violence is essential to horror films. Theyre are not actually very scary as we have grown used to the types of film and what happens. The graphic violence is pretty much the only thing that shock us nowadays and so is definately needed !!!
