Got this after trying resist. Already have the film on DVD, but gave in to the promise of extra features which the other DVD didn't have.
The Making of feature was rubbish, but the short film 'Rings' was actually very good! I enjoyed it more than Ring 2 at the cinema! This short is the only thing reccomending it over the original DVD. There is no Directors commentry, and I don't really care about the trailors. Also had the easter egg that was on the other DVD, but that is ignorable. Ring compleatists (like me) will no doubt give in to temptation, and would feel cheated if it wern't for the 'Rings' short.
Being a hardcore Ring fan I was tempted by the SE, but I already have the first one so can't waste the money! I'll wait for The Ring Two to come out on DVD, cos I'll be wanting that.
Btw, where is the Easter Egg on the first DVD? I never found it (Ok, so I couldn't be bothered to look for it) but could you point me in the right direction?
You probly already have seen it, it's called: "Don't Watch This!" and isn't hidden or anything.
I am really mad there is no Directors commentry, and that the 'Making of' feature consisted entirely of cast and filmmakers interviews. No actual 'making' at all! I left a comment on Amazon! (So, that's me if you look!) I gave it three stars. Considering they dubbed this a 'special' or 'collectors' edition, it was cr*p! Plenty of DVDs come with better extras than this and don't have the proposity to call themselfs 'Special' or 'Colectors' editions. The nerve! I stilll love the film though.
alot of these special editions are released proir to a sequal(eg. "get shorty" SE for "be Cool") just to cash in and make it appear like they're is something special when usually they arnt. They are by and large a con.

No I was talking about the original dvd, like corvis said the deleted scenes are interwined with 'the video' but it is not hidden, just select the 'dont watch this' option I think in the main menu.

I only own the orginal Ring, Ring 2 and Ring O, on video, all taped off TV, I'll have to invest in the DVD versions of them, I'll probably buy the re-makes as well.
Aren't we lucky to have 2 great versions of a great story.
That reminded me, anyone seen a film called "The Changeling" 1980?
I've not seen it, but I've heard it has the same plot as "Ring", even down to the 'ah, it's over- oh it isn't, so the evil must be perpetuated to escape it' twist.
Yeah, George C Scott as the composer in the haunted house. Very scary for the first half then i remember it got a bit daft in the climax, but yeah that first hour is terrifying. When the little ball comes down the stairs I nearly had a heart attack
