Jaws.

Average paperback but all time classic blockbuster movie. In fact, was it the first blockbuster movie?

Mystic River by Dennis Lehane was a fantastic book and the film stuck really closely to it. Usually I prefer to just read the book rather than see the film though.

I read that Life Of Pi would be coming to the big screen this year. One of my favourite books, I hope it's done well.

If anyone has read the Alex Cross novels by James Patterson I would be interested to hear whether you think that Morgan Freeman was a good choice to play the main character?
I watched 'Kiss the Girls' and 'Along Came a Spider' before reading the books and thought they were good films. However, having read those two books later (and many more Alex Cross novels - I became a fan!), I thought someone like Denzel Washington would have been a better choice.
Don't get me wrong - I love Morgan Freeman and think he is a fantastic actor, but he was far too old to play Alex Cross.
Anyone agree/disagree?

No one has mentioned the obvious yet... fight club was amazing when it came out.
I'm interested to see what the coupland movie is going to be like when it comes out. I don't see how it would work. Blank fiction is hard to film...

Nearly everything Stephen King has written has been made into a either a film or TV series but, sadly, most of it is pants. A few exceptions - Carrie, The Shining, The Green Mile, Stand By Me.
