do u mean stuff like the harry potter books? well... i will have a go at this!! i think putting books onto the screen could be a good thing and a bad thing. Sometimes it could ruin the childs imaginations. If they read a book they already ave images in their head as to who a character is and looks like and by making a film could change this. But others it can help when trying to remeber who is who. i have just finished doing king lear for english lit A-level and i know it isnt a childrens book but watching it from the video helped me understand and remeber who character was and what they did. That mite b completely usless answer, but hey! i tried!

oh i dont think they can ever be as good, theyre good to watch to see the effects but thats about it, they always happen to miss big chunks out!
charlie and the chocolate factory, alright yeah that was pretty much the same as the book but i think they could have done it a lot better
harry potters a good example, they always miss out the good bits! especially the 4th film, they missed out about half of the book!
some of the films are alright though, like for example goodnight mr tom, i thought the film version was just as good as the film
narnia was alright as well, but when you;re reading you always have a completely different picture in your head to what everything looks like and then the film just changes everything for you
but personally i dont think the films can ever be as good as the books - just my opinion though

is exactly what was looking for, cheers! have seen many sides to this argument now and it is really interesting to see what everyone thinks of this. i think it's even more interesting to look at kids books and films, espeically ones from your own childhood, like narnia coz you have such specific memories of reading it!
boys wet their pants when no one is watching!

I agree with angelwings that it can ruin kids imaginations but then at the same time how many kids have started reading the Harry Potter books because of the film? I have a very vivid imagination through books and find a good horror book can actually terrify me whereas a horror film can just make me laugh or a bit squeamish. I don't think I have found a film that is true to a book yet and my mother still refuses point blank ever to watch Gone With The Wind as she read the book as a teenager and doesn't want her visualisation of Rhett and Scarlett ruined by the film version
