Did anyone see After Hours last Saturday on C4? Directed by Martin Scorsese in 1985, for which he won Best Director at Cannes. I'd describe it as darkly comic. To quote the RT: A lonely computing consultant ventures into downtown Manhattan on his way to meet a date, but the evening soon descends into a nightmare. If anyone has it on VHS I'd happily buy it as I believe it's difficult to get hold of.
Well I've seen it around in various sales in chain-stores & I think it was in that DVD-set of Scorsese films (The Martin Scorsese Collection) I'm getting round to buy (I have all of them on VHS of course...). After Hours is one of Scorsese's overlooked films- a minor-masterpiece - everyone always talks about 'Taxi Driver', 'Raging Bull' & 'Goodfellas' (fair enough)- but what about 'After Hours', 'King of Comedy', 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore', 'The Last Temptation of Christ', 'New York New York'- I even quite enjoyed 'Kundun'! Scorsese's canon is quite rich and lovely and films like 'After Hours' shouldn't be forgotten!
