well... no, personnaly i havnt seen 'cape fear'. However, i do believe that the role of women has changed throughout many years. I think that it had to change in order to keep up with society. If i remember correctly, many eyars ago women were not typically the used as main charcters... although now... they generally are. Do u agree?
yeahhhh ma boy, women in horror films always used to be the ones getting chased and brutally murdered haha, now though they are like the men and fight for themselves...savage !!!
The women watching modern horror movies are propably screaming more than the characters and shouting out things such as "don't hit them with that", "throw the gun away" and "quick the front doors open, best stay inside and go upstairs where it's dark".
i'am doing some research on how the way in which women are portrayed ini horror films have changed over the years.
dont no if any of u have watched the film 'cape fear' but i may be looking at how they have changed in the re-make.
thanks for u help !
I have just been offered 2 DVD, the old and the new version of Cape Fear. I'll watch them this weekend and let you know. It would be interested also to compare the role of women in horror film and in History. The relation of women with the Devil (Rosemanry's Baby, any film with witches) The idea that women are the instrument of the Devil to tempt those poor weak men is to be found in many stories throughout the centuries and the literature. Also this relation is found in vampire films where women seem to enjoy the bite of the 'creature'. (Nosferatus)The Church and the religions in general seem to be so terrified of the power of women that they have tried hard to diminish her. Of course in some films she is the 'saviour' but by being the mother or sacrificing herself. Because, today, we have more or less rejected the influence of the Church, women do not appear the same way in horror films. In Polanski's Dance with the Vampire, the woman (the poor Sharon Tate)is innocence turned into evil by men. I could carry on but it is my bedtime. Bonne nuit.
I think in most horror filsm they're portrayed as 'scared' and 'vunerable' when trhe horror sets in. They scream for help ect. But sometimes they fight back
Can I jast say to all ladies who find themselves on horror situations... get a gun and kill the evil person, don't just stand and scream it will do no good.
