The most memorable film for me was Ryan's Daugher where he played the simpleton. He was brilliant in that.

yes he was astonishing in Ryan's Daughter. But I'll best remember his golden oldies like 'Ice Cold in Alex' and 'Great Expectations' and 'The Colditz Story' of course.

Hobson's Choice for me. I remember seeing it for English at school, and he brought the whole story to life. Smile

RIP Sir John.

Ice Cold in Alex is a great movie. The baby and the battleship is my fave - he was so sweet in it - God rest him. All those years with his wife, did his service in the army...Great actor, great man Frown

Probably The Singer Not The Song, the Western he was in with Dirk Bogarde, and in some ways a precursor for the Clint Eastwood character a few years later. Also Scott In The Antartic, Hobson's Choice and Great Expectations, by far the best adaptation of this Dickens novel.

Definitely Ryan's Daughter for me, and second to that would be Hobson's Choice.

Not so much for one film. More one moment. The beer scene in Ice Cold In Alex. Legend.
