Do you feel that violence and crime shown in Hollywood films influences violence and crime in the UK?

i think that only a very small portion of the people watching violent films would be influenced into violence by watching them,i would hope that most people are mature enough to realise violence is the most negative of physical emotions.

True, but I think that is mainly video games like manhunt that get the bum rap for that kind of thing, and also marlyn manson. It has been claimed that games like manhunt have inspired youngsters to commit such acts as the columbine high school massacre.

It is propably more accurate to say Hollywood is influenced by crime, the real world provides a lot of stories to be filmed.

I am a woman and I like violent films! BUT not all violent films. I think the bad ones, the ones that have an influence are the ones where the violence is not necessary, not justified and above all, made fun of. The violence in Tom and Jerry or in war films is one thing, the violence in Tarentino is another. What I hate in Reservoir Dogs is that he presents violence as fun, where the baddies made fun of the goodies and violence is a joke. I've just seen the last Cronenberg's film, Eastern Promise. The violence, there, is really strong and powerful but always showed as the wrong thing so I am not shocked. I loved the film even if sometimes, I had to close one eye.

My personnel opinion is that in no way does it influence crime in the UK, I think it is a joke to suggest that it does.

I'll tell you what influences crime in the UK, the way we glorify criminals and portray them as men of the people, likeable rogues cheekiy chappies getting one over on the law.

That is just my opinion

You are very right but that is exactly what some film do! In some films you don't even realise you are on the side of the criminals and you fear for them, you hope the police won't catch them. They are ususally thieves! But Tarentino is making fun and enjoyable violence and torture. He presents it as a joke. Some of us are conscious of that but some vulnerables people are mouthgaping with admiration!

I think only a weak minded person would be influenced.

Horror/Gore is my favorite genre that I've been watching since a young age and I've not gone homicidal.

People choose to commit disgusting violent murderous crimes because they want to. There is no one else to blame but themselves. I hate when the defence use 'influence' and blame the media. Marilyn Manson has had it many times, yet music is here for entertainment and in no way subliminally tells someone go do something awful to another human being.

I THINK IT CAN INSPIRE PEOPLE TO COMMIT CRIME, BUT THEN AGAIN ANY MEDIA AND WELL JUST ABOUT ANYBODY CAN INSPIRE PEOPLE TO COMMIT CRIME. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND HOW MANY FILMS HAVE INSPIRED PEOPLE NOT TO COMMIT CRIMES OR EVEN TO MAKE THEMSELVES BETTER?

I BET YOU MORE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INSPIRED TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER BY FILM THEN PEOPLE TURNED TO THE WORSE.

"Movies don't create murderers, they just make the murderers more creative" a quote that went something like that was in one of the Scream films, possibly the second one. I always thought it summed it up quite well.
