I think what he is saying is he doesn't like the newer 3 films in the series, and I will have to agree with him. They are rubbish!
Stick with the original trilogy.

Peter Greenaway's 8 1/2 Women. What the...? And also, what about Mystery Men? It seemed to bypass my humour circuits completely!

I have to agree with inclusion of Star Wars, the early stuff was fun and ground breaking and great for kids. later stuff interminable tosh, overblown and humourless with silly names, silly aliens and silly plots. Disagree with Blade Runner, LOTR and Brokeback Mountain, three of my all time favourite films. I sat in my car in the cinema car park with a friend after watching the film and we wept, it was so moving. Independence Day -don't get me started on that gungho bilge!

The only good Star Wars film was Empire Strikes Back and now that's been ruined by the prequels. With Darth Vadar Lucas managed to setup and then thirty years later destroy one of cinema's most memorable villains... Star Wars: Ep III was completely unwatchable and all of the prequels shows just how oversimplified a world view George Lucas has. How could we actually have overlooked his borrowing of racial and cultural stereotypes to make convincing aliens in the original films, without being morally sickened? Remember the aliens that prowl the desert, stealing and scavenging: "Sand People", weren't they called? He might as well just come out and call them the "Thieving Arab Monsters" and just be done with it. And in the prequals, at points it was like watching Al Jolson writing a sci-fi story... Jah-Jah Binks, the jamacan slug-creature, with thick rubbery lips and ears like dreadlocks, the focus of all slapstick in the film. Also, The Trade Federation = Chinese Opium wars, anyone? And whilst the rebel alliance are all Steve McQueen-shit-kicking-yankees, the empire seems to be mainly staffed by effeminate English thespians, who all mince and pout on cue to the slightest bit of intergalatic insubordination. This is clearly the War of Independence that Lucas is trying to describe, but he doesn't seem to have learned the appropriate syntax to describe it. The worst thing of all, is that having been branded "evil", the British are denied the role of even being the most evil figure in galaxy, thanks to James Earl Jones. (Although whilst the american James Earl jones voices Darth Vadar, we brits secretly know that a good, sturdy west-country man is breathing in that shell - David Prowse.) Watching Star Wars is like watching a child making sense of the world, but not understanding the boundaries of acceptability. It's uncomfortable to watch. And the whole franchise is a completely overhyped piece of nonsense. Alec Guiness hated doing it and rightly so. Harrison Ford once complained to Lucas when filming dialogue, saying "You can write this shit, George, but you certainly can't say it!" George Lucas is a terrible filmmaker, something that is shown by the fact that Empire Strikes Back, the only one worth watching, was written and filmed by completely different people. Stop fuelling his ridiculous franchise by buying lightsabers and mint-condition Bobba Fett lunchboxes. Please. It's time to grow up and watch grown up films. Or do what you want. I don't care either way...

Harry potter films.. although they were everywhere with advertising and rated 'best film of the year' it was same sh!t different episode! Only reason I watched them was to say that I had sort of one of those films you start and must watch till the end not because you enjoy it but because so you won't be left guessing how it ended!

Very easily even with Johnny Depp the film was beyond awful - the only reason I can see that people would like the film is for that reason only 'the love of johnny depp'

Although it's only a recent one I would have to say Borat! Everybody raved about it and even my beloved Heat gave it 5 stars yet I went to see it and found it so mind numbingly boring, I laughed once for all of 2 seconds and came out thinking what a waste of an hour and a half of my life! I would rather have been at home painting a door and watching it dry!

Which brings me back to my old bug-bear.. "The Color (sic) Of Money" The only film I have ever walked out of at the end, and asked for my money back at the box office. And they gave Newman an Oscar for that pile of pants, ahead of Hoskins in Mona Lisa. Don't talk to me about honesty, justice, and fair play

Most films made in the last 10 years are SO overrated.
The Blair Witch Project. Everyone said that it was so scary and you've got to watch it. I didn't find it scary in the slightest, and what was the ending all about?.
The Ring films. People said they were scary aswell. I didn't find it scary at all. Boring rubbish.
The later Star Wars films. The first three (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi) were good films but the more recent ones were nowhere near as good.
Aliens-(The 2nd Alien film) The first film was excellent, it had good acting and lots of suspense. Ian Holm was superb. The second film was absolute shit. All that running around effin and blinding tring to look and sound hard. Rubbish.
Also most 90s films with teenagers in.

'Titanic'. The sinking bit was spectacular but the romance between him and her (forgotten their names) spoilt the film, I thought. It was a bit silly IMO.

quote: On that note, Brokeback Mountain is severely over-rated... If Jake and Heath weren't playing two gay characters it would be just another recycled Cowboy film...
but that's the whole point. i think people often misunderstand the meaning of brokeback mountain expecting to see a film the is heavily critical of society sending a strong message. but really it was a love story. it is meant to show the strong and real love between the two characters, the fact that they are gay being secondary. the beauty of brokeback mountain is not just that it is entirely beautifully and believabley acted, but that you realise that the situation is none of the main character's fault and yet in the end they all get hurt. the men, the wives their kids... the thing is there are so many romantic stories which are meant to be littered with obstacles of why the the two main characters "just can't be together". but in brokeback mountain it just brings home some of the REAL problems some people in love faced at the time (and still do today to some extent). it wasn't trying to be the most critical or most provocative film. it was about the beauty of love in its purest form and against all odds and love at its most irrepressible and honest. the incredible thing there is that inspite of it not being the film's primary intention it does provoke thought and really makes you reflect.it is one of my favourite films because it is one of those rare films that roles along gracefully with perfect ease and every aspect being used to just the right extent. the sort of thing where you wouldn't and shouldn't change a thing because every nuance makes the film what it is... anyway, lecture over ( ) of course i respect your opinion if it is not your sort of thing that's fine, i just wanted to explain why i like it and why i think it will be remembered as a great film. in terms of overrated films, i thought that fast and furious was really overrated, as was crouching tiger hidden dragon (that just IRRITATES me!!), the same goes for many owen wilson films, he is often put on par with ben stiller but ben stiller is much more talented. And In The End The Love You Take Is Equal To The Love You Make

Hate to be boring but it's Titanic for me too. I went to see it with 5 other people who came out of the cinema and raved about it and I thought it was tosh. The worst part in the film was where they were running and trying to get out of the sinking ship....but then find time to have a 'chat' with the Captain!
Pass me the remote love.....
